Hey guys as you probably know we are playing each other in the NIT Wednesday evening and I thought I would come over here and talk about my Bearcats so you can get an idea of what to expect.
UC is in year four of a massive rebuilding project, we are coached by Mick Cronin, he is from Cincinnati and has been an assistant coach for Bob Huggins and Rick Pitino. When he got the job we had 2 scholoarship players and they were not the caliber of players that Cincinnati is used to having. Now in year four the talent seems to have been restocked and UC should be poised for a nice year in 2010/2011. As for right now, Cincy will focus on Weber State and the NIT as it tries to develop their young talent. We are led by blue chip freshman guard Lance Stephenson, he averages around 12 points a game with 5 boards, he is also a terrific passer. He needs a lot of work on his jump shot but he can get into the lane and score very well. Our big post pressence is 6'9" sophomore forward Yancy Gates, he averages around 11 points and 6 boards. He is still learning how to be a good big man but he shows flashes of brilliance. He has a long way to go though. We have two seniors, Deonta Vaughn has scored over 1,800 career points at Cincinnati but he has had a very dissapointing senior season, he likes to shoot the three even if his percentage is hovering around 32%. The other senior is Steve Toyloy, he's a power forward but hasn't made much of an impact this year averaging around 4 points a game. The team is really led by Stephenson, Gates and Vaughn, if two of those three play well UC will be tough to beat but if the trio does play poorly I could see Weber State hanging around and possibly having a chance to win. Congrats on making the postseason guys and lets hope for a great, injury free game on Wednesday!
