Closed scrimmages

I understand Weber had a closed scrimmage against Boise State today. Does anyone have connections to know how that went? I guess no media is allowed and so it's pretty hush-hush from that standpoint, but would be good to know how we fared against a Boise State team that is picked to finish 4th in the Mountain West this season.

Weber got waxed losing 84-66. Randy only played 9 (Kozak is still out) and we shot an abysmal 19/56 from the field (2-17 from 3). Oh and in 27 mins of play Brekkot would have fouled out twice. I watched the scrimmage last Saturday and am a bit shocked that neither Johnson or Fuller played. Are they both red shirting? I know this might sound crazy, but I'm starting to miss Randy's blue collar teams were the guys weren't the most talented, but were fundamentally sound, tough defenders, and could shoot the ball consistently.

Oh out rebounded 45-23 the issue continues.

I was finally able to get in touch with someone who knows about the closed scrimmage, and it appears you do too talhad. I completely agree with you that Randy's blue collar teams were preferable to this fast-paced, selfish garbage that I witnessed at the open scrimmage, and that you outlined as more of the same at the closed scrimmage in Boise. The team had 4 total assists in a full 40 minute game. They played two 20 minute halves and a 10 minute extra period where those who didn't play in the main game got to play. Fuller and Johnson didn't play in the main game, but played the entire 10 minutes of the extra period and did really well. I agree it is very shocking that neither of them got time in the main game, because both of them played really well in the open scrimmage. I would think that neither one is planning to redshirt since they'll probably want to save it for a transfer if coaches continue to evaluate them the way they have so far.

Well I am more concerned about the rebounding edge. Our inability to rebound really got to me last year and I was hoping to see that get fixed.

As far as the offense, a Rahe team will get better as the year unfolds. We're rarely good at the start of the season. That's just the way it's been. And who knows what Rahe and staff were wanting to see and what combos they were putting on the court against BS.

I'm willing to give them a pass, but I tend to also love the pass ... So it will be interesting to see how I respond to this new push it offense. On the positive side of that, hopefully we'll beat the crap out of a few presses this year by pushing harder. Being non-aggressive when teams press is always a peeve I pet each year.

Baseball's over, looking forward to Thursday night!
