Way to go EWU administration! Hopefully he gets a nice bump in pay as well as his staff!

This has to pump up the team as well! I get the feeling they are going to come out tomorrow fired up and they will roll Richmond!

Didn't he get a 4 or 5 year extension last year or the year before? I'm wondering if this one includes not only more $$$, but some clauses about being able to speak/interview with other schools with vacancies.

Regardless, extremely well-deserved, and glad to hear it! Went from accepting that he was leaving and EWU would be in rebuilding mode for 2-3 years, to      :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :king: :king: :king: :king: :king: :king: :king: :king:

His contract was last restructured in 2014. 212k base salary with 10k increase every year. Base salary of 262k by 2019. I imagine this one's a little better.

Does this change anything? He just signed a five year contract two years ago. Is he any more "locked in" than he would have been for the next three years? I asked about this during his last contract and about had my head bit off by fans who stated that any FBS team who truly wanted him could easily buy out his contract. My guess is that he is not any more locked in than he would have been, but that he renegotiated his contract to benefit all parties involved. Beau probably increased his salary, EWU likely increased the buyout knowing that it would be bought out eventually, and we fans win by assuming that he wouldnt have gone through the trouble of doing this if he didn't plan to stick around for another 1-2 years. Just my uneducated two cents.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

In a perfect world, he becomes the highest paid coach in FCS immediately with incentives and salary increases getting him up into the 500,000 K range within a couple of years. The economic impact and exposure from another title, deep playoff runs, national POY awards, FBS upsets - more than pays for that, not only for the university but to the entire greater Spokane area. Assistants salaries need to increase as well. And then...obviously stadium improvements.
.
Move that direction and there's a chance it turns into a Mark Few situation where all the benefits of winning, stability, and living in a great region outweigh the offers from outside. And of course he can still be courted away but that would potentially be after another couple of National Championships and to a Pac 12 school of his choosing.

Plus it prepares EWU for the salaries and facility needs it should expect if the P5 split happens and we want to stay with our peer institutions.
