Coach Gardner and Chris Gold gone

Thats too bad. I really liked Coach Gardner, but it is understandable why he would want to make a change. I wish him and Chris luck in their future endeavors. Also, thank you for giving us your very best.

So, Coach Gardner was in charge of a lot of local recruiting. He is a local guy, who played at Judge Memorial and began his coaching career at Juan Diego. I'm interested in who Coach Rahe is looking at hiring. From the article, it seemed as if the Wizard already had an idea of who he was going to hire, "he would have a replacement within a week." This is pure speculation on my part, but I have a feeling that Rahe is going to hire someone local. Maybe a high school coach or a lower level college (JC/CC) coach. Also, it wouldn't hurt to find someone who knows how to develop bigs a bit more. Not that it is a serious disadvantage, just there is no one on the present staff that has much playing experience in that area.

Bummer deal. I really liked Gardner and Gold (I still do). For Gold this is a great opportunity. He needs to take it, so that he can improve in his career. As for Gardner, Apex over coaching? WTF, but I get it. The main purpose behind his career move is to spend more time with family. Can't disagree with that decision. Good luck in the future coaches.

Was Gardner even in charge of the bigs? I see what you are saying Tal, that having a coach who was a big come and coach at Weber, but does that necessarily mean he would do a better job? Anyway, I have my own speculations, Andy Jensen perhaps? He was a highly under-rated center who was a huge reason behind Weber's success in 97 and 98. I don't even know if he is still coaching. Last I heard he left a JC in Wyoming after guiding it to a 20+ win season.
