Weber State men’s basketball coach Randy Rahe is staying at Weber State.

With rumors swirling that he is one of the top candidates for the vacant job at Boise State, Rahe is going to sign a contract extension this afternoon. He still has two more seasons left on his current contract, however today’s extension will add on to that sufficiently.

We’ll have more news when it happens.

Tal - your specificity leads me to believe that you know something about this deal. This is great news and very glad to have Rahe on board for the next 8 years! Whoohoo!

Extension is through 2016-2017. 5 year extension, Quite frankly I was expecting more after Bovee's comments last week.

Rahe’s new contract
by Jasen Asay - Mar 24th, 2010

While all of the details aren’t out — and probably won’t be for a few more days — one thing looks certain: Randy Rahe is going to be a Wildcat for a long time.

Rahe signed a contract extension on Wednesday afternoon that will keep him at Weber State through the 2016-2017 season. Financial terms of the contract were not immediately available. However, you can bet that Rahe’s salary increased from the $145,000 base pay before benefits that he reportedly earned this season.

This is the second extension Rahe has signed at WSU. Following his first season (2006-2007) Rahe signed a deal that went through the 2011-2012 season. However with schools like Boise State requesting permission to talk with Rahe about their coaching vacancies, WSU felt it needed to act in order to keep its coach.

According to Utahsright.com Randy was making $192,454.00. I think Tal probably is right on with the 215K base salary.

To say that I was guessing would be a lie, but I don't really know most of the facts. I do know that the university was able to raise a substantial sum of cash for "coaches" (Rahe's) salary. Also, they had the Cravens money available. My figures were more of an assumption rather than a guess.

"I'm really honored and flattered by it," Rahe said of the additional years added to his contract. "It's a great feeling to know that (WSU) President (F. Ann) Millner, (vice president) Norm Tarbox and (athletic director) Jerry Bovee have faith in the work that we've done and the confidence that we're going to keep building this program and move in the right direction."

"My family and I really love this university and the community of Ogden," said Rahe, who declined to comment on Boise State's apparent interest in him. "The thing that has been very important to us is the university is about family. Everyone is here to support you and help you be successful and the support that we've received from the community has been terrific."

"This is very exciting for Weber State University and the community," Bovee said. "In four seasons as head coach Randy has proven himself as an elite coach and we look forward to continuing to build our men's basketball program under his direction. We are fortunate to have a coach of Randy's caliber and we're very excited to have him at the helm of or team for many years to come."

"You can't have success in a program without the help of everybody," Rahe said. "You've got to have the support of everyone from the president to the vice president to the athletic director down to my staff and my players and I'd like to thank everyone that's helped our program to this point."

"I've always said it's a privilege to be the head basketball coach here, and is something I don't take lightly," Rahe said. "I feel a great responsibility to do things the right way and to have a program that's going to make the university and community proud."
