for 15 minutes Monday evening by Sportsline host Mike Lamb. It was good. Here are some of the highlights that I can recall:
The thing he likes most about this year's squad is their great attitude.
After he took over the program, he needed to instill discipline and accountability and these guys have that message now.
He will play the best players whether they be freshmen or walk-ons or whoever. He named three freshmen that have really impressed him so far and who will play this season for sure: LB Badger
(Cardinal Newman); WR Norrise (Berkeley); and RB McCowan (Oxnard).
He said he doesn't really care for two-a-days and he's glad the NC2A has reduced them. These pre-season practices are a lot of work for both players and coaches and the players are really anxious to play a real game after they end.
He knows the local football talent is very good and so are their coaches, so he will continue to make this a recruiting priority, which will also help to create more fan interest.
He said our program is growing in fan popularity as we ranked 3rd in Big Sky attendance last year and he sees us having real big crowds for the Montana and UC Davis games, especially if we are playing well.
He was encouraging folks to buy tix (100 bucks) to support the team and attend a dinner night (Aug 29th) on the football field where there will be an auction, games and dancing until midnight. Call the football office secretary if interested.
He's a very upbeat coach, but seems real pragmatic and didn't make any predictions except about those 3 freshmen above.
I'll be at UNLV. I hope we can hold our own. Go Hornets!
