I really do wish him success at Sac. St. Coach sears is a great guy who has been in some unfortunate situations, that were not of his doing. As long as he doesn't hire the devil, can you say JLS, to be an assistant coach, he may have some success. :coffee:

Congratulations to Coach Sears for a 7-5 record at Sac State, the best record at Sac State since 2001 and tying the best win total for the hornets in their FCS history, capped off yesterday with a 41-30 win over their rival UC Davis , the 19th victory over the Aggies in 61 years.

Did he get the HC job at Sac then?

Was he only the HC on an interim basis, much like he was with us for the first year?

yes, it will be interesting to see if they remove the interm tag.

Despite his ineffectiveness at Weber State Coach Sears did a good job this year at Sac State. When Coach Sperbeck resigned in late April after spring camp, I was concerned. Shortly after that our AD retired and our President announced his retirement. Normally these type of situations trigger transfers and dissension. Coach Sears had been there only two months and hadn't had success at Weber.
To his credit nobody transferred and the team really bought into what ever he was offering. Those close to the team ( and the players themselves ) claim they have never been closer or more unified. They have played hard all season, and have bounced back well after some disappointing losses and have showed a lot of determination and guts in coming from behind to win some close games.
Apparently Coach Sears puts a lot of leadership responsibility to the players, and our players ate it up.
The local media occasionally refers to him with the interim tag but the school website has him as Head Coach.
He already has 8 commitments for next year, and was talking about recruiting after Thanksgiving. If he was leaving I don't think players would commit not knowing who the coach will be.
Realistically I don't see how they can't give him a chance, with the way the team played, a 7-5 record and a beat down of UC dugpile on Saturday.
Whatever happens I am grateful that he kept the team together and playing well in what could have been a disastrous season!
