Coach Taylor new OC @ Utah

FYI...co-offensive coordinator for Utah (Aaron Roderick) last year made $431,000 with max bonus of $60,000...nice pay raise! http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/football/assistant

*Not sure what Taylor's contract is.

That is like hitting the lottery right there.

I was hoping that Coach Taylor would stick around for another year or two, but I'm not surprised by this at all. He's been a finalist for several jobs this year. Frankly, I'm shocked he didn't get the UC Davis HC position but I suppose the allure of having an alum (Dan Hawkins) as their coach was appealing to them.

I thought he'd be a short timer. He helped us out a lot during his year here. Best of luck to him at Utah!

any ideas who we might be looking at for passing game coordinator? internal promotion or to we look elsewhere like we did with coach taylor?

I think they will have to go with an external hire. I don't know that there's anyone on the current staff that's a "QB" guy. It doesn't seem like we would have brought in Coach Taylor in the first place if there was someone on the current staff that we could go to.

Yes, talk about upward mobility, wasn't he coaching high school last year? Wonder who he might take with him either coaches or recruits?

Congratulations to Coach Taylor. I think his year at EWU was great for all parties because he brought some new ideas to the program and I'm sure learned a lot from Baldwin and company.

If Baldwin wants to call the plays again a name to think about is Erik Meyer. He has been a QB coach at CWU while he was playing in the AFL and for the last two years he was the OC/QB coach at his former High School where his brother set all kinds of records at QB. His Brother has Verbaled to Sac St. He could be the QB coach and grow to be the play caller in a few years.

My thoughts exactly!

Bummer for us but Coach T. was probably a 2-3 year hire best case scenario. I'm sure he is very grateful for the opportunity that CBB afforded him at EWU. Good luck coach!

Too bad he couldn't stick around longer but I really enjoyed watching the new wrinkles in the offense this year. Would Gubrud be the same QB this year without Coach Taylor? I don't know.

I think what took the offense to a different level this year was the different wrinkles that Troy Taylor brought in. Coach Taylor also called all the plays which is a change from previous years as far as I am aware of. So I think you are correct; if CBB wants to call plays again then maybe just bring in a guy like Erik to coach QBs. If he wants to continue the trend of letting the OC call the plays then he might need to find someone with more experience? Either way I think Erik would be a great addition to the Eagles as QB Coach.

I would not be surprised if BB went back to calling the plays. That's especially true if we're just looking for a QB coach. Even when Hill was still at EWU I don't recall him calling plays from the booth. TT's coming to EWU was probably contingent upon him being able to call the plays.

Whoever is hired as "OC" is probably not going to be a better play caller than BB. That said, I think relinquishing those duties this year may have made him a more complete HC.
