Coaches Luncheons

Per email from the Wildcat Club: Coaches Luncheons scheduled at Stewart Stadium Sky Suites, 3rd floor @ Noon on Aug 22, Oct 24, Dec 5, & Feb 27. Thought I'd share that with forum...FYI for good or bad. :|

What the hell is even the point of this thing anymore? It used to be every other week, and now it has dwindled down to basically nothing. at this point they may as well go Old Yeller on this thing. :twocents: :ohno:

Some things die a slow death...interest has slowly declined in this age of digital communications at your fingertips, with eyes glued to small screens showing any & all facts & news of interest.

Some of us fans still enjoy real person to person/face to face communication...back at the start of this all was a chance for coaches, players, AD staff, etc. to provide a setting where they could provide some interesting stuff, in addition to the usual 'coach's speak'. Varied things that fans were interested in hearing.

As with several opinions expressed on this forum about things like lame marketing, student-body disinterest, declining attendance...realize that these days the games, activities, luncheons...all are facing the reality that there's much more competition, a faster, busier pace, & most people's interests are fleeting at best.

Hey, there's still a few of us that like to just show up, set back, & enjoy the show, lame as it might be. :wall:

No offense, I'm not trying to attack you or anything, but...

Why is it that whenever something like this is slowly dying in popularity for whatever reason, it's always "grumble grumble damn kids grumble smart phones grumble grumble back in my day grumble"

Honestly, sometimes I feel like the median age on this forum is 50. Just seems like a lot of grumbling old men bitching about how things are now and trying to act like they are in the know, when they really don't know jack shit.

I apologize, I wasn't trying to attack you personally or anything. This is just something that has really bothered me on this forum for a while.

Really no offense taken, Back2WSU, that's why the smirkey rolling eyes at the end of my yada, yada, yada. I get it. Just trying to answer your question of what was the point of it in the beginning...it was good (debatable) at the start, because there was a little new info at times, & seeing the featured players/coaches in person.

Tolerate us oldies, I get riled up a few times at "old......" posts, as well as some of the rest, but not your or ajwildcat's at all in this case (frankly, usually agree with & like them). Hey, that's what the forum is, a mad mix, maybe tilted heavily to the OLDER side. The momentum (slide) is to our side of the teeter-totter, remember, eventually you'll get there.

Wow...this has gotten preposterous. Becky needs to cut her losses, swallow her pride, and return it back to the format that was most successful. I commend her for trying something new, but It just hasn't worked. Now it seems as if the coaches luncheon is being slowly fazed out. Feeding fans in the stadium will be a loss. Sedexo is a rip and it is disgusting food. You pay a lot for food that just isn't edible, and only having four for the entire year. Ugh! Getting rid of a once successful program is a sign of impotence and would be a bad move for athletics. Nobody went the last few years because it was in a terrible location that had really bad food. Go back to what works. Consistency will bread success.

To be successful, these things need to be convenient, low cost, decent food, and have relatively candid coaches. It needs to be near campus to involve as many students as possible. Parking needs to be available and abundant. The atmosphere needs to be relaxed.

I'm not so sure about an on campus location, on a Monday at noon. Parking is not going to be easy or abundant. Not sure how relaxed you are going to be after walking a half mile to the stadium and then up a few flights of stairs. The coaches should be relaxed. That is a good thing. It will be convenient for students. That is a good thing. It sounds like the food might be provided by the Wildcat Club(donation suggested). That might be a good thing, students could eat for free.

Only having four of them will put a lot of pressure on the coaches to get a ton of info out in short order. There will not be much discussion or Q & A. It couldn't just be about the past game and upcoming game. It would need to be about the whole program. I'm not sure how you would squeeze all of the seasonal coaches into a one hour time slot.

Still, the biggest problem is parking, on a Monday, at noon, on campus, when some people may need to return to their jobs after a reasonable lunch break. :coffee:

News flash: Coaches Luncheon Monday, Dec 5, 12 N at the sky suites, Stewart Stadium!!

I know several of you posters eagerly await these, & here's your chance to ask the pertinent questions of Coach Rahe, etc. Also get prepared to interpret the coaches speak, what really is being said, reading between the lines; so you can inform the rest of us ignoramus posters what's what!
