Coaches philosophy

It's good to see a little positive energy on this forum. I too have had my concerns, but overall I think we are improving, maybe not as fast as we might want, but still moving forward. As a famous coach once said "you're either getting better or you're getting worse". I think we are getting better.

For all the NB bashing done by GVG, I'm glad to see some level heads here. NB is the coach and will continue to be for the near future. To start bitching about that now just gives us a year or two of bad blood to further weaken our resolve to win. Is he perfect? Not by any means, but then again, he's not Jerry Glanville either. He wants/needs this team to win. This is his first HC job. If it goes well, he stays or moves up. If it goes poorly, he may never get another D-1 HC position. I believe his desire to win will make him look at the changes he can make in himself and his staff and improve there first.

We have the players to do better. We are still a young talented team and I feel OK about where we are headed. The BSC is one tough league however so expect improvement to be incremental and not so dramatic. We know we CAN win, now we just have to know we WILL win. With success comes confidence and with confidence comes victory in tough games.

Coach Burton has to learn how to talk and deal with his players in a respectful way. Don't discount what is being said in regards to players and what they are feeling right now. The truth is that players have left because of how they have been handled by Burton, some of his assistant coaches and the assist AD. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes that the public is not aware of. The transfer athletes seem to be the ones feeling most of it, several have expressed their regrets and and some of the players are considering giving up the sport that they have loved since they were kids. There is a huge difference between discipline and verbal abuse. If Coach Burton doesn't get a handle on his ego and quick, the team will look different by the time Spring camp starts. There are more players looking into transferring out or just leaving the program all together. It would be different if it was a few players but unfortunately it is a significant number and it should not be like that. It's sad because the team seemed to be headed in the right direction.
