We all talk about the players but we have had rather substantial changes in the coaching positions.
New OC
New DC
New WR coach
New DB coach
New safeties coach
5 new or different positions of the 11 coach total
Could this have an impact on a close game early in the season? Maybe a positive change?? What will happen with the overall culture of the team? Maybe just enough to cause us to win that last game.

For me, every new guy represents a step up or a wash versus the one who came before. I'm pretty damn happy with this staff. I can't see how the new coaches could hurt us. Getting Shoemaker as coordinator was a virtual coup. Ena seemed like the best fit for an improving D.

:thumb: We are really thin in the secondary and it was very apparent yesterday. We had several things not go right and we still almost won the game. We will not play a better team than JSU the rest of the season. We have good coaches and I look for our team to run the table and be 10-2 in November.

The sun will come out tomorrow. Promise.

Coaching changes are a part of the newness on the team. What's problematic is not using the players available to good effect. Are the coaches capable, yes. Does that mean we give them a pass?

What would have been the impact of using Lindsay and Warren at LB inside the 10 the last two times Cooper ran the over lighter LB's? Or selling out on the blitz at mid-field to flush or sack Cooper on a couple of the 3rd and longs? Or the impact of putting a RS Freshman on their best WR in the second half after moving him to CB 2 weeks ago? These are valid what ifs. This is how people looking to improve look at things. Evaluation.

Shoemakers HISTORY of letting up after taking leads is well documented. Where were the dump-off's/check-downs for EB3 on those long plays? I didn't see any, it was all or nothing more often then not.

One last thing, there where a lot of game stoppages for injury, cramps and other. Lot's of time for coaches to make a change before the coup de grace was administered. There was depth standing on the sideline. I support the coaches and the players. This was a tremendous effort and coming up short happens, coming up short after being so dominant requires more reflection. Go Eags.

I agree bout JSU is the best team we play from here on in. Coaches again will be tested as well, as well as what's left of our players, next Sat. Idaho got curb stomped vs Penn st. and two days ago I wasn't worried at all when we travel to Moscow Sat. But Idaoo only lost to Wyoming 21-16 and were up 10-0 as Wyoming came back to win. Wyoming has beat Missouri and Texas State this season. Concerned already on injury front.

Was Jacksonville State really that good? I didn't think so. Their QB was certainly exceptional, and he willed them through that game. I certainly felt that they were more committed to winning that game no matter how hard they had to fight. We seemed to wilt as the game went on. I don't know what to make of it. It was just extremely disappointing. We'd have beat that team by 4 TDs last year.

It seems like we've regressed a ton with our physicality. We were a team that just lined up and beat the hell out of our opponents last year. This year we seem second best when it comes to the physical aspect of every game. The toughness just doesn't seem to be the same, because on paper, we should be equal to or better than last year.

Most of all, the defense remains a massive concern. I was hoping we'd seen the last fourth quarter collapse after the Youngstown game a few years back, but here we go again. Even with all the time of possession, it was our D that crumbled.

This will be critical mass this week. We can't afford another loss this early in the year. Idaho and Montana will be chomping at the bit to put a beatdown on us. It's time to step up.

While I appreciate the optimism, I don't know if I can agree. JSU was fine, but they weren't great by any stretch. They were kind of like our 2005 team with a great QB but not much else around him. Idaho is playing better, but have done nothing offensively so far this year. If we can't keep them under 20 points, this year could get real ugly, real fast.

Great day for EWU football yesterday, except that win did not meet Eagle standards. Re assistant coaches, probably safe to say we'll not be losing many to other teams. Athletes: Thank you for your good efforts this season, and Good Luck.
