Coaching Changes

Time to see Hill's name batted around for some various openings. The Las Vegas Review Journal has already mentioned him for the UNLV job.

I love Hill and I hope he stays but our program is bigger than one coach. I’m just hoping Weber fans and coaches don’t think or talk about it until the season is over.

Taking the UNLV job is coaching suicide. Hill could do so much better than this job.

Harvey Hyde; 1982–85; 8–37–1; .185;

Wayne Nunnely;1986–89; 19–25–0; .432;

Jim Strong; 1990–93; 17–27–0; .386;

Jeff Horton; 1994–98; 13–44–0; .228;

John Robinson; 1999–2004;28–42–0; .400;

Mike Sanford; 2005-09 ;16–43–0; .271;

Tony Sanchez ;2015–19; 19–40–0;.322;

There is a chance that UNLV gets what they are looking for, but I highly doubt that Coach Hill goes for the UNLV job. Why? How does that job help him get back to the University of Utah? Personally, winning an FCS Championship and being nationally competitive every year would be just as good as going 7-5 at UNLV, but if you can't right the ship in Vegas, your career is virtually over. Besides coaching college students in Vegas would be an absolute nightmare.

No matter the reasons why a coach shouldn't go to Vegas, I just don't see Coach Hill going to Vegas. There are a ton of better options out there than UNLV and I feel if not this season, he will get an option of going to a much bigger fish in the future. Like I said, either Utah, or something that will help him become the HC once Whit is done. He won't take something that isn't going to lead him back to SLC (and once that coaching job becomes available, the UTES would be idiots not to take Coach Hill).

If I were Hill, I would stay at Weber State for a cheeseburger and a shake before going to UNLV...barring a 30-year contract (7 figures a year), a lifetime insurance plan with vision and dental, a good pension, and a coupon for a buffet.

Yesterday's attendance was pathetic. This community doesn't deserve Jay Hill.

This...

Tim was just given the reigns over athletics completely and I am excited for him and feel he’ll do a good job, but now is the time to work. He needs to figure out how to get people to the game this week or we might as well just start calling him Bovee #2. If I was him, I’d be asking my crew what plans were in place now and what had already been executed. Yesterday was the day things should have been happening. If Bovees leftovers can’t get the job done, someone else needs to take over marketing.

Once again...Bovee did some good things but making money, expanding the budget and generating revenue weren’t things he was proficient at. In fact our budget never changed while he was in charge, actually it shrunk. Marketing is more than butts in the seats. It is revenue, concessions and most importantly, fan development. More fans means more sponsors with more lucrative deals; not the school of radiology. Fans = donors, supporters, season ticket holders, and members of clubs. To me students have always been the easiest and cheapest group to market; yet, on campus marketing is lazy and poorly executed. It isn’t hard. Graduation is Friday. I’d invite everybody who shows up to stay and support. I’d have huge/tall signs in front of every testing center utilized by the school up tomorrow morning at 6am with the information. Flyer cars, contact LDSSA and make a deal, get WSUSA to actually do work for once and SSA (alumni benefits the most from fans...they want to be part of the alumni organization and give money but it all starts with work, imagination, effort and organization). Go to the dorms and area apartments. Marketing is lazy...get students now and they will continue to come and support. Your students are the institutions future.

Just enjoy the ride. Either Jay Hill will stay or he will go. These rumors are not worth worrying about.

New Mexico hired Danny Gonzales it will be announced tonight at there basketball game according to the Santa Fe New Mexican paper

Does anyone believe that this was a serious consideration for Coach Hill. Just seems to me that if he was going to go, it would be to somewhere that wasn't a deadend job

I know less than nothing about what Hill's future plans hold but my gut tells me he is happy where he's at and his situation and unless the exact job he wanted presented itself he stays put trying to win a championship.

I think you'd see him take a DC job with an already successful program before taking a HC job at one of these schools where it's next to impossible to be successful. Seems that we see more FCS HC to FBS Assistant than FCS HC to FBS HC. It's still a big increase in pay but with much greater future opportunities.
