Greg Lupfer. Period.

That would be a nice hire, also frustrating though.

Who would have thought 3 years ago that the players were right for wanting Lupfer over Glanville? Looks like a wasted 3 years now.

I just want a change period.

No more R&S offense without the WRs needed, no more ineffective 3-4 defense, no more black and white uniforms and helmets that don't fit with the rest of PSU, no more hoping for 6-5 records in a conference we are normally consistent in..........and so on......

I would welcome any change at this point.

3 years ago, the Athletics Administration and the University itself were held hostage by the announcement/leak of information that Glanville was interested in being the HFC. Double that when it was known that he would bring Mouse along. There would have been a meltdown by the boosters, public, media, etc. if he had not been hired. Just goes to show you what "public opinion" knows.

Those in charge need to know when "public opinion" is right and when it is wrong. Part of being a leader is being able to do the "right" thing even when it's not the popular thing.

Unfortunately, since PSU is where it is in the public's opinion (support would have dropped immensely had they not hired Glanville), they were damned if they did and damned if they didn't 3 years ago.

Hopefully PSU can recover from the free-fall the football program has taken.

Need to consider (not in any order)...

Robin Pflugrad
Greg Lupfer
Jeff Mills (Univ of Washington Asst)
Robin Ross (Oregon State Asst - Former HFC @ Western Washington)
Jay Locey (Oregon State Asst)
Joe Glenn (Ex-Montana HFC, Ex-Wyoming HFC)

I wonder if we'd even have a shot at Lupfer. I wouldn't be surprised if he felt 'passed over' by PSU.

We need to turn the page. Lupfer hasn't exactly burned up it up at Cal Poly.

My picks would be Locey or Glenn. Both have HC experience.

Is Mike Kramer still considered toxic?

We should also look at assistants from the most successful FCS schools like Montana, New Hampshire, etc. Imagine where we would have been with a Chip Kelly who was an assistant at New Hampshire before moving to Oregon.

How can you adequately assess Lupfer from one year at Cal Poly while installing a new defensive system? Now if he had been at CPSLO for 3 years...

Justin Wilcox, the Defensive Coordinator at Boise State, would be an excellent choice. Here's his Bio:

He'd be great but would have to take a pay cut to come to PSU.

I'd also like Boise State's OC Bryan Harsin

Heres a list:

Jay Locey (Oregon State Assistant HC)
Greg McMackin (Hawaii HC- if he gets fired)
Joe Smith (Linfield College HC)
Jeff Tisdel (HC at Sierra College in CA, former Nevada HC)
Nigel Burton (DC at Nevada)
Tyronne Willingham (He was good at Stanford and still living in the NorthWest!)

Stanford > Notre Dame > Washington > Portland State

Stranger things have happened, but that's a long shot.

This is a major long shot, but maybe we could take a shot at Boise State OC Bryan Harsin. The guy is going to land a job somewhere, maybe he's hungry to be a head coach .

Robin Pflugrad - HC (PSU Grad)
Mouse Davis - OC (PSU Legend)
Greg Lupfer - DC (PSU Grad)

Sort of a wish list, but all three have ties to the program.

How is Locey on this list? Wouldn't he have to take a huge pay cut to leave Corvallis? Just seems unrealistic.

I'd be totally fine with Lupfer or Pflugrad.

The reason he struggled this year is Ellerson brought in small quick DLs to shoot gaps. The 4-3 defense Lupfer runs requires big DTs to keep the OL off the LBs and Cal Poly biggest was only 260. Cal Poly's DL was beat up by the end of the season. Because of injuries we were starting a 235 lb DT last week. Give him a couple of season to bring in his type of players to run his system and he will be as sucessfull at Cal Poly as he was at PSU.

That being said, I hope PSU goes in another direction. I would like to see him at Cal Poly long enough to install his defense with his recruits.

I like your choices but I think we need to move beyond Mouse. Mouse is 77 and refuses to recruit. Can't blame him. He deserves a pleasant retirement with his new wife.
