Coach's Radio Show

We're at Buffalo Wild Wings tonight for the ISU Coach's Radio Show. If you have questions, you can post them online on the Idaho State Athletics Facebook page. AD Jeff Tingey will be out first guest...then Coach Mike Kramer...and I think he'll be bringing the nation's top two receivers with him.

....question for kramer.....why ....when it is short yardage....3rd and a yard...maybe 2....do we not have the quarterback go under center....and if the defense gives it to you....run a sneak...for the yardage.?.....why stay back at shot gun?....

ALWAYS a pleasure to listen to Coach Kramer. Tingey had some interesting things to say as well to start off the show.

:thumb: The practice field is 90% to 95% funded, and he is going to start the bidding process. If I understood correctly, the latest he'd like construction to begin on it is late winter/early spring. It will be on the south side, because it was deemed necessary to keep the east side open for fire lanes. It would also create challenges on the east side due to the proximity to the houses there.

:thumb: Idaho is expected back in the conference for all sports but basketball in 2014. If Idaho brings football back, he said the conference will be split into two 7 team division. He also said that if that happens, the Big Sky will be the first and probably only FCS conference to stage a conference championship. So that brings me to my question -

:?: How and Why? FCS schools are allowed 11 regular season games, and the playoffs begin immediately the week after. How do you manage the timing of a championship game? Does the NCAA move the entire playoffs back another week just because of one conference? The Big Sky champion is already granted an auto-bid into the playoffs. Why stage a championship which could, a) potentially eliminate a Big Sky team from an auto or at large bid due to a 4th loss or a record similar to another NCAA team, and b) create a lower seeding for a team because of a possible loss? FBS teams have conference champions for MONEY, plain and simple. I don't see the logic in an FCS conference championship game. Anybody?

Thanks for the questions. I'm sorry that I didn't ask any of the questions posted here...but during a live radio show I don't have the luxury of monitoring multiple web sites for questions. I wish I had a producer and various assistants to get all of the questions to me during the show from this site, Facebook, Twitter, etc., but that is not possible right now. ISU Athletics is asking that in the future, please post your questions on the Idaho State Athletics page on Facebook.

I'll ask any question you send us as long as there are no personal attacks involved.

Thanks again...and GO BENGALS!

Sas:

I'll try to answer your question just based on my opinion.

Holding a championship game would generate a ton of publicity, probably nationally, you'd definitely see for example ESPN involved not just a local carrier like ROOT Sports.

Something of that nature usually generates interest in corporate advertisers who could shell out major money to be a part of this because of its uniqueness.

The name of the game today is maximizing financial opportunities and this would be a huge chance to simply turn down.

As far as the schedule, as Mike explained, byes are currently part of the Big Sky scheduling process. I'd imagine this could be 'fit in' by eliminating all byes during the season, play straight through and use the extra week for wont of a better word at the end for this game.

Regarding the possibility of a lower seed, I assume that risk was measured and found wanting against the publicity and sponsor potential of a nationally televised championship game.

Again that's just my opinion.

Does Tingey realize that having a conference championship game would cause the Big Sky to lose its auto-bid to the playoffs?
