Coming from Missoula

Hey there Eags! I'm coming over from Missoula on Saturday for the Griz/Eags game with my dad as a (late) birthday gift. I'm just curious what to expect. I'm sure I can google to my heart's content, but I'd much rather just ask some fans. Obviously I want to see a Griz win (if they play like last week that won't happen), but I also just love atmosphere and I'm excited to see a game at Roos. The last time I was at an EWU game was at Joe Albi stadium many years ago...so obviously things have changed since then  Anyway, are there any cool things pre/post game to look for, things during the game to pay attention to, etc? Like I said I hope my Griz show up and stomp you guys, but whatever happens I'm super excited for this trip! Go Griz and see ya'll Saturday!

Hey Lennay.

If you're leaving Saturday morning you're going not going to have much time to do anything before kick off which is at 12:42 pm. Don't forget that you lose an hour heading our direction.

That said the tailgate scene has gotten to be tremendous at Roos, so walk around and enjoy yourself, our fans, particularly the tailgaters are friendly. The bad ones that make the news tend to be drunk students after the game...don't mind them.

If you have time on your way through Spokane a couple recommendations I have would include:
Coffee:
Indaba, without a doubt the best coffee in Spokane, but please note it is truly coffee snob coffee.
Downtown location (LOCATION: 210 N Howard Spokane, WA 99201)

Breakfast:
Franks Diner (1516 W 2nd Ave, Spokane, WA 99201) which can be a pretty busy place, but worth the wait...everything is amazing!

Once in Cheney there is a new brewery on 1st street that I have never been to, but may be worth checking. My kids and I have a tradition of always ending up at El Rodeo Mexican restaurant on 2nd. That's my favorite Mexican in Cheney, and possibly in all of Spokane, friendly and fast service and delicious food. El Rodeo doesn't pack out after a game either, and it's fairly accessible from campus.

New Boundary Brewing (505 1st St, Cheney, WA 99004)
El Rodeo (505 2nd St, Cheney, WA 99004)

The size of the stadium isn't comparable to Wa-Griz, so hopefully you're not expecting that. Despite the small capacity of Roos Field, the tailgating is certainly something I'm proud of. For many people, it's turned into an entire weekend of fun, with several lots now full of RV's every game day. Most Eagle fans are extremely proud of this program and love this university, but the stadium is severely lacking. However, it won't stop us from showing up and appreciating the product on the field!

Two more recommendations for restaurants in Cheney are Top of the Line on 1st St and Zentropa on 2nd next to El Rodeo. Both have fantastic food, although Top of the Line can be a little busy and slow on service at times.

Usually the city of Cheney sets up an area for visiting Griz fans to tailgate and hang out over in Sutton Park, south of the stadium if you want to hang out with your own kind

Have a safe trip and I hope it's a long drive back to Missoula after your winless streak in Cheney moves to 5!

Go Eags!

You gain an hour coming west.

Bingo.

My wife and I always mention Zips and El Rodeo as the two places we miss most from Cheney.

I will 2nd that! No one makes a better fast food cheeseburger than the Zips in Cheney. Not even the Zips in Spokane. Rosa's cheese bread is the best I've ever had. Dip it in their ranch dressing and you'll be hooked for life! Check out the tailgate scene in the upper lots above the field. It's become quite impressive and lot's of fun taking place!

go eags!

I don't know why but there's something about Rosa's ranch. I asked them once and it's Hidden Valley but it simply can't be replicated.

Zips is great but...

1) I miss the south of the border menu...I used to live off of soft taco's, tots, and the guac. That guac was like Rosa's Ranch.

2) Zips has only been the best since Lenny's converted to Italian. The Whammy at the original Lenny's and the crispy as hell fries were the finest burger and fries ever known to man.
