Coming to Ogden, Quick Question

Hey guys, ISU Superfan here! I'm coming down to Ogden to watch our women's team play yours, then I'm hopping back up here to Poky, hopefully in time to catch the men's game vs Weber. First off, if I make it up here in time I hope to see a lot of you that made the trip! For those coming up, travel safely!

Second, I'm staying overnight in Ogden Friday night. What are some good local places to eat at? I avoid eating at national chains when I go on the road. Looking forward to a good weekend of ISU/Weber shenanigans!

Historic 25th St has some good eateries. http://www.historic25.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Near the Dee I'd suggest The Pie (pizza), Ligori's (pizza), Javier's (Mexican), or Golden Jade (Chinese). Enjoy your stay.

Just one man's opinion/taste:

Steak - Timbermine - Near mouth of Ogden Canyon, up 12th ST
Burger - Burger Bar - out Riverdale RD to 1900 W, in Roy
Pizza - Slackwater - Washington Blvd at Ogden River
Mexican - El Matador - 26th ST, just east of Washington Blvd
Mexican Grill - Cafe Rio - 42nd ST & Riverdale RD
Szechuan Chicken - Maple Express - 12th & Washington Blvd

25th Street Downtown:
Two Bit Street Cafe
Union Grill
Roosters

Mmmm....I'm hungry now.

La Ferrovia Italian Ristorante on 25th
Longhorn steak house by the New gate Mall
El Matador 25-26th east of Washington
Sonora Grill @ the Junction
Ruby River Riverdale rd (steak)
Prairie Schooner by ogden river(steak)

I'll second Slackwater on Washington. Great selection of beers, if you're looking for that.
Zucca's on 25th St is a nice place, too.

Wow...that picture. Catcat...you must be nostalgic. Missing being in Ogden and going to Potatoville?

There are sooo many great places to eat. Lucky Slice is good pizza on 25 (matter of fact, you can't really go wrong on 25th St. every place down there is good), but Slackwater is definitely delicious and has a great atmosphere. The Pie next to campus is a great hangout for students and fans alike. If you like Greek the University Broiler is nice. I go to Ligori's every once in a while. They have a lunch special you can't beat. Up by campus there are places, but the best is in downtown Ogden. Please don't waste your experience with El Crapador. Terrible, pretend Tex Mex. I don't know what they serve, but it sure as hell isn't Mexican. It is for gringos who can't handle spice and don't have taste buds.

Welcome to Ogden. I would recommend going down to the Junction 23rd and Washington. We have a few things there that are pretty unique. The Ifly indoor skydiving simulator is awesome to watch or to participate. There is also a florider (indoor surfing) in the same building. Sonora Grill is great upscale Mexican food. There is also a new Blue Lemon resturaunt at the Junction that has super fresh, tasty food. There is also a Megaplex movie theatre down there.

I second Tals assessment of El Matador. Plus it is dark and dirty. 25th is really good since Shin Sei packed up. If you want amazing sushi go to Tona on 25th. Try the green globe, it is not on the menu but it very well could be the greatest creation known to man. Spicy Tuna tucked into a giant sphere of avocado. Is it lunch time yet?

I would give that same review for Javier's but add overpriced for the amount of food you get, and why I said "opinion/taste" to begin with. Just because you're going for Mexican doesn't mean you want every taste to be jalapeno. I have no problem with spicy but don't prefer heat over taste. The "Veracruz" at El Matador is excellent-- 2 jumbo, deep-fried shrimp, 2 cheese enchiladas, and a beef taco.

To be honest, my review for Javiers would be worse. It is suppose to be authentic and it just seems like everything is the same. Like they have a huge barrel in the back that has a lever and when you pull it something comes out. At least El Matador doesn't claim to be authentic...I mean how could they, it was started by an Armenian family. I might not like their food, but I do love them. :thumb:
