COMMUNITY AWARENESS

I have read a lot of smack about how mktg doesn't do this and mktg doesn't do that. While some or most of the critsism may be in the very least partially true and in the very most almost ALL true.
it seems like we have a community that either is ill informed or just don't give a damn. I am going to assume that they are ill informed. That being said, how do we inform the masses that The Wildcats have a REMARKABLE entertainment value to this community? ...which brings us back to mktg....is it ONLY the Marketing Dept. at WSU that is accountable to attract the masses or is there something we can do as Purple Pak, Wildcat Club, Born 2 Bleed Purple followers, et al ? (and hold ourselves accountable)
I say YES. It's time to PURPLE UP Ogden! I am open to any ideas. I would even volunteer to take a purple mass to the mall, down town at the amphitheater, or where ever and put the word out....pass out a simple flier, have a massive purple clad march on the city, or what ever.(marching band would be soooooooo welcome here)
SOMETHING to wake this town up! I kinda like to call it "TIME TO PURPLE UP, OGDEN" (for lack of a better name. I am just spit balling here..if we get our heads together we can work miracles and do it BY GAME TIME.)

Can we get a whooooa, Bundy???

"Time to Purple Up!" has a nice ring to it!

I think it should be a group idea...so here's a small bit of input...how about showing as a purple mob at the mall with a band and walk down the mall halls playing the fight song....and banners/fliers with info about the game....how about thursday or friday night? Again, i am just spit ballin...how about more input?

With the band? Why are you assuming we have a band still? I think the economic downturn took out the band. I was told the band didn't make it to Wyo or CSU. Those are short road trips, one would think they might make it to a game. Last season the band went to Idaho State, NAU and Montana. But I'm an old man what do I know.

I think a pep rally the night before each home game is a great idea. It could be held at the mall or downtown, maybe down 25th St or the Junction. Bring the band, cheerleaders, some players, and maybe Coach Mac. Hand out fliers, free food & drink, and maybe some free game ticket vouchers. Have the band play, the cheerleaders do some cheering, and the players/coaches say some things. I believe it's too late to try for this weekend's game, but we would have 2 weeks to plan one for the next home game. To be successful, I think we would have to have the support of the University and city. I think it would also be necessary to organize a volunteer group that would plan and organize such a rally. I'd gladly volunteer some time and effort. Does anyone else think this might work, or would we just be spinning our wheels?

Why isn't there, at very least, a pep rally on campus? I've said it once and I'll say it again, what is the purpose of giving certain groups on campus monies if they refuse to use said monies for the intended purposes that the budget calls for?

What is WSUSA doing to encourage excitment among the student body. Once again, ABSOULTELY nothing. This cannot be a student issue, I think it stems from the advisors. Why can't student recruitment/ambassadors be more present on campus, they could surely hand out fliers around a DJ or student band at the bell tower. Yes, I saw a sign on campus, but the Purple Pak can be doing a lot more, this a great chance for them to really blossom as a group. Doing something is better than doing nothing at all, if one idea doesn't work try another one.

Last but not least...there are close to a thousand dancers and cheerleaders, its great that they won a national title, but their whole purpose is to excite the student body and fan base for athletics. WASTE OF MONEY, if they are not doing their intended purposes.

Its great to rip on athletic marketing, since they are pathetic and incompetent, but there are a lot of other groups on campus that should be doing things to heighten interest. Just to name a few more: Alumni Relations, Development, Campus Communications, Wildcat Club, Athletics SID, Presidents Office, and the Band.

we have a band still i think. i don't think we ever had a marching band though. they got the outfits and the instruments, but they just don't march. i remember one year, every half-time they would get on the field and form a half circle and bob up and down while playing songs. i was kind of embarrassed for them. maybe if we ask more of them they will do more.
I also think the City of Ogden and Weber County and department of commerce ought to try and do more. college sports can be a major source of revenue and economic development. but Godfrey is more concerned with a Gondola that will never happen then with the resources he already has.
well now i'm rambling...

Who said it is too late to do something for this Friday? Lets get a few band members together, the Purple Pak and anyone else who wants to go and just do this!
All it takes is about 20 or 30 of us to really make a splash in the mall. Throw out free VICTORY DEW courtesy of the local Pepsi distributor. any wrist bands left over form basketball season? How about the guy who shoots the Foam claws into the stands?

My cell is 801-698-4460 for anyone who wants to chat and do what ever we can....I can even call the Standard Examiner and tell them there is a pep rally going on...come on people...if we roll over this easy what's the team gonna think about leaving it all out on the field?? We are all busy but we can do this thing. I have seen much BIGGER miracles pulled off in a matter of hours that what we are talking about here. Come on....PURPLE UP, OGDEN!
