Conf tourney

So does anyone know for sure what the seedings look like?

I noticed bigskyconf.com doesn't even have it up yet. The log jam is so riddled that I doubt anyone knew all of the potential combinations at work today!

If I'm not mistaken, Idaho locked up #7 despite losing to Idaho State tonight in Pocatello. They are tied at 8-10 with Weber, but would have the tiebreaker based on the recent win against Montana.

With teams like Idaho and Weber the 7 and 8 seeds, you can see that the conference has improved a bit this year. Neither of those teams is terrible, whereas in previous seasons the 7 and 8 in the Big Sky were usually garbage.

Under the new format, I believe we'd play the winner of NAU / Portland State if we beat Idaho. I think the tourney is a straight up bracket now, rather than where the 1 seed gets the lowest remaining seed and the 2 the second lowest.

OK. Big Sky says Sac State is the 3 seed and NAU the 4.

This makes no sense. We were 1-1 against Sac State, while Montana was 0-1. If our head to head against Montana was tied, wouldn't the second criteria be who had a better record against the next seed? Something doesn't pass the smell test. Did bigskyconf.com screw up? There's no way NAU can be #4 and Eastern not host the tourney.

From how I understand it they work from the top down. So they figure out who is 1 and 2 first. Griz and EWU tied & split against each other so they look at who is 3...oh 3 and 4 tied? Well 3 and 4 are now one entity. Griz are 1-0 against NAU and 0-1 against Sac for a 1-1 record combined. EWU is 1-1 against SAC and 0-1 against NAU for a combined 1-2. 1-1 beats 1-2. So the Griz are #1 and EWU #2.

Now they move on to who is 3 and 4...NAU and SAC Split this year so they look at who is now #1. NAU being 0-1 against the now designated #1 and Sac being 1-0 means Sac is #3.

If they didn't do it that way it'd be one big loop of tiebreaker. See the 3 and 4 would depend on who was #1 and #2. #1 and #2 would depend on who was #3 and #4. It'd be even more of a mess, so they start from the top down. So they have to treat #3 and 4 as one team basically to resolve the tie at #1 and 2 then they can move on from there.

Yeah...it's a bit screwy I'll admit, but with how big our conference has become with teams only playing each other once (which is ridiculous in my opinion) this type of stuff is likely going to happen occasionally. If the Big Sky expands any more they really need to look into splitting the conference into two sub-conferences or something to try to clean this mess up a bit.

Congrats on your huge come from behind win tonight btw. Thought you guys were cooked when I saw how far you were down early in the game. Kept checking and you kept getting closer and closer then next thing I know it's overtime. Hell of a comeback.

It is a crummy paradox cause mainly by the unbalanced schedule. It's sour grapes because Eastern was well within reach in all 3 of their recent conference losses and could have made the plays necessary, but still the unbalanced schedule really made it hard on Sac State and Eastern this season.

Eastern had to play Montana twice and Sac State twice for two home games and 3 away games, Sac State had to play Eastern and NAU twice for 2 home games and 3 away games, Montana had to play Eastern twice, but Sac State and NAU only once for 2 home games and 2 away games, NAU had to play Sac State twice but Montana and Eastern only once for 2 home games and 2 away game. One way of looking at it, Montana's win over NAU is the deciding game in the tiebreaker that sends the tourney to Missoula and Montana got their one game against NAU at home while Eastern had them on the back end of the SUU-NAU road trip.

:blah:

Hopefully the Eagles go out their next week and play like their best. If they do I think they can win it all.

If we play well we win, but we haven't really played dominant since the before midseason. Hopefully we gel next week.
