Conference Only Schedules

With all of the talk, around the country, about going to conference only schedules for football, if it happens, could leave BYU with a lot of open dates. Dixie as well, for that matter. Maybe BYU can just play Dixie 11 times.

This is most likely to hurt FCS programs the hardest. We stand to lose the income generated by playing one or two games against FBS programs. It will be interesting to see how all of this shakes out this fall. :coffee:

If Wyoming dumps us, maybe we pick up BYU on the rebound.

I'd ask for a home and home 😂... I'm sure they will be desperate to fill games.
Yeah, I don't think that is a possibility, but it might make sense for both teams. Low travel expenses for us and they can get us for a lower price than many others. We get a payday and they get a good home game with some instate interest.

I am not optimistic at all that there will even be a season this fall. Another FCS conference just canceled their season. People would rather continue to not wear masks or social distance than have nice things like football.

I know a lot of really thoughtful, intelligent people, but people, as a whole, are quite stupid.

Big Sky Commissioner thinks chances of fall sports is 50/50

A 3rd FCS conference has canceled all fall sports. This is not trending well.
MEAC has cancelled all fall sports. Does not include basketball.

Does this put the FCS championship playoffs in peril?

Is it going to happen to the rest of us?

Will it spill over into basketball?

Will everybody get a red shirt year?

What about all of the HS players who want to enter with grants?

CAA expected to announce tomorrow that they won't be playing football this fall. This is huge for the FCS. I really don't see how any FCS conferences play at this point.

I could see how some would and some wouldn't. Not sure how they might handle a championship playoff if some played fall, some played spring and some didn't play at all. In that kind of a scenario I could see either no championship at all or a late spring/early summer shortened playoff, maybe 8 teams. Any way you look at it, it's messed up. :coffee:

And all because some selfish jerks got butt hurt over wearing masks and social distancing. :wall: :wtf: :willybs:

How would we even afford to test 100+ people multiple times per week without the paycheck from our FBS game this year? How is EWU going to keep the lights on without the paycheck from Florida?

FCS football ain’t happening this fall.

The schools all have medical insurance for all of the participants. That part shouldn't be an issue. However, there needs to be some guidance from the NCAA on what it intends to do with the FCS playoffs. Seems like everybody has been waiting for everybody else to make a stand. I don't think that this 'bottom up' policy making is a workable solution in a situation like what we are in. Fans want sports, players and coaches want to play, and we all want business as usual. However, there will not be business as usual until we solve this problem one way or another. Clearly, what we have been doing has not worked. This is a time for thoughtful leadership and we seem to have a shortage of that. :coffee:

Looks like the Wyoming game won't be happening, at least not on the original date. MW won't start their season until Sept 26. Stay tuned for more changes that are sure to come. At this point I think the conference should just try for a 10 game conference only schedule. All the money games have been or will be canceled anyway.

All four Dixie St home games have been canceled due to the visiting teams canceling their seasons or going conference only. Assuming the Wyoming game is officially canceled, Weber could throw Dixie a bone and play them in St George Sept 5 or 12. Dixie plays at SUU on the 5th but that game could be moved to the 12th as SUU was scheduled to play at USU that week. The 12th is Weber's bye week. Easy and safer trip for the team and fans. Not ideal to play them twice in a season, but nothing is ideal right now. Guess I'm still holding out hope that the season will even be played, with or without fans.

I'm sure that we and UW are scrambling to get this worked out. Now that most of the P5 and G5 wonks have had their say, I would think that the remaining FCS players will be making some choices. I'm not sure what might be holding up the remaining 7 FCS leagues. Some decisions need to be made, and soon. :coffee:
