As a Northwestern alum, I know NU was very interested in Zach, but they are waiting on other targets. From what I've read, he should be a physical force in the Big Sky.

:clap: Awesome! Big welcome to Zach! You will love playing for Coach Rahe. Very excited to watch you play in the coming years.

Welcome to the family, Zach. Hope you have a great senior year. It's going to be great watching you play and develop over the next few years. You are joining a strong and upcoming program. WSU is a great place to be. :thumb: :thumb:

Braxton had received offers from: Denver, Wyoming, San Francisco, Green Bay, and UNC Greensboro. I believe that Northwestern just offered and that Stanford was showing a lot of interest. UTEP, UNCO, UM, MSU, and CU all were showing interest. UN and Standford showing interest are great. It means that not only is Braxton an excellent basketball player, but he is solid academically.

Some notes I found on him - http://www.bigskybball.com/2013/08/zach-braxton-commits-to-weber-state.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like another great get for Weber. His stock was on the rise... 6'9'' big men who have any type of offensive game, as well as the athletic ability to grab 11 rebounds and block over 3 shots a game are rare at the Big Sky level, to say the least!

Northwestern never offered, but they were intrigued enough to scout him extensively in Las Vegas. Northwestern got a commitment from Gavin Skelly, a 6-9 F, this week, so I don't know that they would have taken him. But they defintely liked his game.

Can you imagine having him on the floor at the same time as Bolomboy? Talk about a block party. He has a huge physical body. It looks like his HS team plays a lot of 3-2 defense. I am not sure that is the best fit for his big size.

I found a few of his games from last year. #34 on Highlands Ranch.

Looks like Braxton got reevaluated by ESPN and upgraded to 3 stars! Seems he improving every year which is the trajectory you want for a big!

I like the scouting report! Weber States coaches will get him there!

AWESOME!! So cool. He deserved that evaluation in the summer. He is such a great player and is only going to get better and better. I have been a huge fan of Braxton from the first time I heard about him. Weber really got a steal and a HUGE commitment when Braxton committed. Now ESPN needs to reevaluate Jeremiah Jefferson. He is definitely a lot better than a 2 star recruit too. :thumb:

I think that all of our recruits flew under the radar to some extent. They all deserved to be rated higher. From what I saw, Jefferson could easily be a 4 star, Braxton a 3.5, Richardson a 3, and Hunter a 3. These rankings are very subjective and often politically motivated by who is recruiting them and who's camps they attended.

I love this recruiting class and believe that it will go down as one of the very best of our substantial basketball history. :thumb: :thumb:

Also, a lot depends on the scout doing the scouting too. There is very little corroboration, and is usually done by one person. That person can have a lot of bias. It could be based on school, AAU program, relationships, region, etc etc etc.

Here in Utah, a lot of local recruits get better ratings because of the school they sign with. Mika is a hell of a good player, no doubt about that, but a 4? He went from a 3 to a 4 after signing with BYU. You can't tell me that a local scout, who has a somewhat skewed relationship with a certain institution won't increase or decrease a recruit once they sign with a specific institution. Funny...how Senglin went from a solid 3 star to a 2.5 after signing with Weber State. And how Gittens was dropped to a 2.3.
