Here's to all the new ISU Hall of Famers who will be inducted this weekend. Here's a quick summary of their accomplishments:
Willie Humes--He played from 1969-1971, and is still ranked No. 10 on the all-time NCAA per game scoring average list (31.5 points per game). He holds the top five single-game scoring marks for ISU, including three games of 51 points or more. He was named to the Big Sky Conference's Silver Anniversary team in 1987, and is currently coaching the girls basketball team at his high school alma mater in Indiana.
Karen Tharp--Still holds the single-season assists (171) and per-game assists marks (6.58) for the ISU women's basketball program. She hit 81 percent of her career free throws, had 65 steals and was team MVP in 1976 and 1979. She's worked for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare for the 30 years and oversees social services delivered in 24 counties.
Sylvia Papenberg--She and her late husband Don have been great supporters of ISU athletics for decades. Sylvia receives the lifetime achievement award this year, and of course she is the prime donor behind the new Miller Ranch softball stadium for the women's program.
Boyd Hall--Grew up in Marsh Valley, was one of Babe Caccia's stars in the old Rocky Mountain Conference. He held the season rushing record that stood for 25 years, until Merril Hoge broke it in 1985. But Hall's marks (898 yards, 12 touchdowns) were set in only eight games. He played football for the Toronto Argonauts, then returned to Pocatello, where he owns Hall Enterprises.
Wayne Hill--A four-year starter at linebacker (1974-77), he was a two-time unanimous first-team all-Big Sky selection, an all-American and selected to play in the North-South Shrine Game. Hall lives in Boise, where he is a therapist and has taken a lead role in creating the autism and behavior programs at Idaho State.
Congrats, again, to the "all-time" Bengals headed into the Hall of Fame this weekend.
