I don't think the powers that be will ever accept an FCS player as a serious contender for the Heisman. I think the last serious consideration was Steve McNair - not sure how he finished in the voting, but I don't remember it being too close.
At a minimum, he should have a great shot at another Payton. But the best part is he legitimately does not care at all about these awards, just his team winning. Still great seeing him get his due.

Bahahahaha! I noticed the subtle error. Maybe you can edit your title.
I agree with just about everything being said here. However, there's a first time for everything. I think it would take EWU going undefeated through December to get him in the discussion. That sounds crazy but I'm starting to think it could be a possibility after what I witnessed in Pullman. My guess is that Kupp ends the year with around 1,800 yards and somewhere between 18-25 TD's. I don't think the voters in the FBS would be hesitant to make him a finalist at that point based on what he's done against FBS teams. I know the award is based on what players have accomplished this year, but his past would give them a little credibility. And the best part about what he's done to FBS teams is that they knew it was coming and they still couldn't stop him. That's the sign of and elite athlete. I can see Kupp as a finalist but we can't have more than one loss before December and more than likely we will need to be undefeated for this to become a reality. The next 2 weeks will tell us a lot. Not saying he would even win the award, but to be a finalist would be unreal. If we win our next 2 games I can see this discussion really taking off.......Rjones61 said:EWURanger said:Rjones61 said:This guy believes it should happen.

I agree that he will never be voted in. But him making the voting list in itself would be awesome.

you might limit him, I have no doubts about that. but the bigger question is can you limit the other weapons on offense? if NDSU brackets Kupp all game long that just means Hill and Bourne will have bigger games.

Exactly, If you watched NDSU vs Chuck Southern you likely noticed the weaknesses in the NDSU secondary. They will have to pick their poison. Either TRY to slow Kupp and allow Bourne, Hill, Splendorio et. al to run wild or even go into a dime and which reduces the pressure on Gubrud. NDSU is well coached on D and it is going to be interesting to see which strategy they choose.

They won't dime up. They'll overload a side and blitz an extra man pretty much all game. They'll use the exact same strategy Montana used last year. They are who they are; it's practically in their DNA. This is a style that has been immensely successful for them against offenses of every type. The pressure will be on Eastern's offense to solve the NDSU defense, because no one has in quite a while.
I think we'll score some points. I doubt it'll be as easy as it was in Pullman, though. I suspect the bigger variable is getting our defense off the field. The Bison won't take big drops, they'll pound us up front all day long with a few drops and play actions mixed in. It really hasn't been passing teams that have diced us over the last couple of hapless defense years, it's been teams totally committed to running the football who've chewed us us.
The D was able to make some stops against WSU, but NDSU is a different animal and succeeding against one does indicate a likelihood of success against the other. Besides, Eastern has looked awesome in week one a lot of times only to be rotten the following week. It's time to prove we can consistently bring it every week!

I offered the "dime" up for lakesbison so he could tell us they would stay in their base and no adjustments would be necessary.
