Cory Mitchell

Wow...What a great game.

Ditto. I was really impressed in how Cory stepped up in that game and glad to see him playing to his potential. Even at 5-5, I maintain we have the best receiving corps. in the FCS. And next year Edwards, Kaufman, Herd, Mitchell, Clark, and most likely Hart (pending waiver) will all be back. That fact is going to really help out an inexperienced QB.

IT sounds like a lot of the guys are not ready to quit even though playoffs are not a possibility. I've contended we have the class of the conference of not all of FCS when it comes to receivers.
What would REALLY help a new QB would be a running game. It is pretty sad when 85 yards seems like a victory.

The running game starts with the O-Line, and while I hate to keep having to go back to injuries, losing Miller, Butorac, and Forgette early on in the season along with Powers during a critical stretch really hurt us. The guys that came in and stepped up did a great job, but we're talking about guys playing out of position and without a lot of experience. We just didn't have much of an opportunity to utilize a power running game this year and had to rely mostly on draws and screens. Our two young speedy backs were effective in doing that, but there's only so many times a defense is going to get burned on screens and draws. I'd love to see us going back a little to the days of running people over. Beaumonte and Bronson would have been effective in that role this season if we had a healthy offensive line to do it.

Yup. He's definitely found a groove. I hope he can add being a primary kick returner to his game, because we need one desperately and he seems like a good candidate.

Little brother is leading the nation in total offense. Our Eagles missing the playoffs hurts in many ways, hopefully it won't hurt Bo Levi's chances at the Payton Award and All-American and 1st team Big Sky QB status. The MSU QB is good and he has his team ranked #1 in the nation but Bo Levi has just been amazing all season. Driving back from the UW game their fans and sports radio hosts had him playing on Sunday's after his great performance at Husky Stadium. Thank you Bo Levi for all you've done since you came to Cheney. Happy we get to see you in the future when you come back to watch big brother play.

While I think O-line injuries certainly played a role in the running game, I would also point out that with zone blocking, a RB has to have the patience, timing and experience to take that step and slight pause for the running lane to open. It's not instinctive and I'm betting that the young guys come back with another year of practice and experience and do a better job of it.

I believe Coach Baldwin said Cory was offensive player of the week for the team. Coach was very complimentary of how much he has improved thus far this year.
Given the receiving corps we have coming back next year it has to be a dream for any QB.

Would Big Mitchell ever consider playing CB ? With his speed, it seems like he'd almost be a better fit at corner than at receiver, ala Jesse Hoffman.

Don't know who we have coming up but we loose Alden Gibbs. As you know Gibbs had little to no football experience but had the physical talent to be a good corner. He did get schooled a few times this year but all and all did a great job. Having experience at receiver, Cory could apply that to the other side of the ball and be a great corner.
