Crazy Rant from a Frustrated Hornet Fan

Ok, first off, the title should give you an indication of how seriously to take this thread. That being said, here I go:

After suffering through this years hoop season, frustration is the least profane word I could come up with to describe it. The team has improved somewhat, but they still seem like a group of lost children amongst a conference of men. I understand Katz only had a matter of weeks to recruit, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. He has now had a full season to recruit and bolster his squad, so next year had better be a dramatic improvement. I cannot fully blame him for a squad that was largely not of his choice.

As for the idea of dropping our basketball program, this is rediculous! Yeah, we suck, lets not cut off our nose despite our face. If Sac State dropped its bball program, the reputation of the school would be tarnished. Whether the team sucks or not, athletics are a determining factor for many students considering where to attend. Not to mention the black eye we would recieve as the school who couldn't handle a basketball program. Every school has a bball program!

As for the 'Hornets Nest', calling it a joke would be offensive to jokes all across the world. The arena/gym in which a school plays is critical to their success. I am sick to death of people claiming it is simply too small. This is only one piece of the puzzle as far as I'm concerned. A perfect example was last weeks televised game at Portland State. Their gym seated as many if not less than ours, but it looked at least 1,000 times better than ours. Their facilities blew ours away without much difference in capacity. The same can be said for DI schools across the country.

As the economy is in the sh!ter, a new arena on campus sis very unlikely. therefore I have 2 suggestions. 1) Completely renovate the Hornets Nest. expand it, improve the facilities, clean it up, make it less of a glorified high school gymnasium.
2) Start playing at Arco. I have no idea about the feasibility of this, but it seats more, has better amenities and would make us seem a lot more DI.

Well, thats all of the ranting I can stand right now. bring on the firestorm.
