What could correct this season and put this team and program back on the right path?

Dallin Hall...

No other player is as important to the future of Weber State Basketball. We desperately need a local kid to come in and get the Dee rocking again. Heard he is an automatic mission kid (just fine with me) but he would start and probably average 15 this Fall for the Cats. Would be absolutely huge if he came to Weber.

I'm not sure that he really knows just how big of a deal he would be to our community, if he stays home. It's a bigger deal to us than any of the other schools recruiting him. He would be a very high profile player in our program and would be seen by pro scouts from day one. :coffee:

Why would they want to send him into the mess we currently have? I imagine that we have an entirely new coaching staff by the time he returns from his mission. I think a buyout is facilitated after next season. Plus, look at Randy's history with mission kids.

Let’s be realistic here folks! Dallin Hall is going to go to BYU. And there won’t be NBA scouts here in Ogden from day 1 if he does come to Weber. He is a great High School player, but he is not on the NBA radar. Come on!!!
Harding just finished his career, number one scorer in Weber State history. If not the best player in Weber history, in the top 5. He doesn’t even have pro scouts hanging around Ogden.

This might be the most ridiculous thread ever. Weber has zero chance to get Hall. And besides, the kid isn't some savior that would save the program. And he's definitely not NBA talent. Get real guys.

Thank you SWebercat! You have restored my faith in Weber State Supporters! We need 4 or 5 Dallin Halls if we want to win any games.

Exactly. It will take much more than one player to turn this shit show around.

Never said he was NBA talent. But, he is a good basketball player and that is what this program needs. He has great court vision and plays solid defense. He’s a local kid who can be a major piece behind a resurgence. Do the Cats need more pieces? Yes...definitely but, he’s a top talent who makes his teammates better. Utah State was led by a handful of local guys. Hall reminds me a lot of Sam Merrill. Merrill will get a look but never make the NBA, but I sure as hell would like him far more than Cody John or any of the recent super athletes joining the program.

I didn’t say you said NBA talent. Old runner said he would have pro scouts instantly if he came to Weber. Furthermore Dallin Hall is a good player, but the odds of him coming to Weber are slim. The only guy we have at Weber that could be considered a super athlete would be Harding. I agree, Cody John is not good and has absolutely no court vision, but comparing a kid in High School to Sam Merrill isn’t fair to Hall. Sam Merrill is a legit College basketball player. He is on a different level. He plays for a team in a conference(Mountain West) that is head and shoulders above any Big Sky team. They just beat the 4th ranked team in the country, and Merrill hit a 28 foot step back 3 with a defender in his grill for the win. Dallin Hall could end up being a quality player, but compared to Sam Merrill, no way!
I totally agree, that we need some local kids in the program, but we are going to have to look deeper, because we aren’t going to get the obvious top guys in the state. We need to look for the Abel Porters of local guys. That would be a more possible option. We need to be creative and develop our players. And we need more length and shooting. Unfortunately, Randy and his staff have not shown the ability to find and develop those type of players over the last 3 years.Once Kendall Hill, Dusty Baker, and Ryan Richardson graduated, we lost our shooting and length. Now we have a bunch of 6’ 2 guards without range. And they keep on recruiting them, and they leave after a year. Weber is a revolving door at this point!

BigWaldo - Totally with you. No surprise here either!
I understand being a fan. Cause I am one, but I’m not unrealistic. Hall was never coming here out of high school! When you are offered a scholarship from a better option you take it.
Now in 2 years when he comes home from a mission, if basketball is his main focus and the degree is secondary to playing, that would be the only time and place that Weber could get Hall. If he comes back and BYU has 8 guards on the roster and he realizes the minutes aren’t going to come, and a Weber State has righted the ship, then and only then would be our chance of getting Hall to come to Weber. So basically, even that is a stretch, because I think he is good enough to beat out those other guards he will compete with at BYU.

It is a shame that Hall is going to BYU. I would have been fine with him at USU or Utah, but BYU and Pope? Come on...but that is his decision and I wish him only the best. I laughed when I heard why Cannon wanted to go to BYU. He wanted to continue living his mission. I don't know what mission he went on, but mine was nothing like being at homogeneous BYU.

Oh well. Good for him and great for our community. I figured it never hurts writing something on a forum telling a kid how much he is appreciated, and ultimately how much of a factor he could play in the development of a program.

As for playing for Randy and being local. I'll be absolutely honest. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO? Randy has never treated local kids well. Probably a major factor behind his decision.

At least four reasons why we Weber was never in the running for Dallin Hall:
1) Brendan Morris
2) McKay Cannon
3) Riley Court
4) Spencer Johnson
Do you see the pattern?

100% agree...really time for Randy to step down.

With all of the travel bans in place, I'm wondering how missionaries will come and go? Is the Mormon Church putting the missionary program on hold for a while? Missionaries due to get back this June, will they be able to return?

I wish Dallin all the best, but there are sure a lot of questions, and not many answers. :coffee:
