Damian Lillard's NBA clone?

Will someone who has ESPN insider tell us who they are comparing him to? I usually have insider but I am on an insider strike due to the whole "Odgen" thing that I've reported multiple times, but ESPN doesn't think we're important enough.

Chad Ford chimes in today with more on what NBA scouts think of Weber State point guard Damian Lillard. Is Lillard a sure first-round pick? Here's Ford below with more.

---

Damian Lillard is starting to get the type of fanfare seldom received at a school like Weber State. Recently, the dynamic 6-foot-2 point guard moved up to No. 25 on Chad Ford's Big Board, ranked second at his position behind only Washington's Tony Wroten, Jr. (No. 16 overall).

Only a junior, Lillard is the nation's leading scorer at 26.3 ppg and there is a lot of thought that he could enter the NBA draft after the season. But will team's shy away from a scoring point guard?

Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com recently talked to an anonymous NBA scout who compared Lillard's game to another young NBA point guard.

"People might question what position he can play in the NBA, whether he's a one or a two, but when you have a chance to see him in person, it's a question that's answered," the scout told Goodman. "He can play the point in our league. He scores a lot of points and does it in a very efficient manner. He gets to the line and also can shoot the 3.

"He reminds me a lot of Jeff Teague when he was at Wake Forest. He's got very good speed and quickness with the ball -- and is probably a better shooter than Teague at the same stage. ..."

"Weber State combo guard Damian Lillard is rising up the boards fast, but teams still are struggling to get their arms around him. Lillard leads the NCAA in PER right now, but he's not dominated the top competition and scouts have legitimate questions about him being a full-time NBA point guard."

He hasn't dominated the top competition? Huh?!? 36 vs. St. Mary's? So, he had the flu against the Coooouuugs.. Granted, against Cal he didn't have the most "Amazing" game, but he still played well. I don't get what else he has to prove. Stuckey never played well against "big" (I don't know what that really means) competition either. Look what he has done. Walter Payton, granted different sport, never played against "Big" competition and I think he was able to accomplish quite a bit in the league. So...ESPN gets such a bonner over the Big East and the supposed power conferences that it forgets to truly evaluate. Look at that idiot lunardi. Case in point.

i was reading in SI's dec 26th issue that cal's jorge guittierz is the #1 defensive guard in the nation and the article mentioned how he was able to hold lillard to just 14 points. st mary's has one of hte best point guards in the nation and dame scored almost 40 lol

The big thing they have to realize as well is he doesn't have the big name talent around him that a Marshall at UNC has. If Lillard had a Zeller, Barnes, Hensen, etc. on his team he wouldn't have to be the number 1 scoring option on the team and his assist totals would be higher. Also, teams are focusing in on him every game, something teams can't do on a marshall because Barnes, Zeller, Hensen, etc. will go off. It's hard for a player to go off on a "superior team" when he doesn't have the skill players around him. Yes Bamforth, Tres, Bullinger are all great role players for Weber State, but will struggle when playing better competition which lets teams focus in on just Lillard.
