Got fired this morning at Colorado and has two million dollars coming as a buyout. I'm assuming that most of his staff will be in the employment line soon. What about bringing Hawkins to ISU. He could have his son as Qb coach OC and he could probably bring quite a few players with him from CU and maybe some from BSU who are low on the depth chart. He could coach for a dollar a year the first couple of years. The guy was successful at Willamette and BSU so he didn't turn stupid overnight. Just a thought.

I would agree, Hawkins would be a major hire for ISU.

Unfortunately, most FBS coordinators make much more than Z's making... plus, Hawkins would probably see it as a shameful return to Idaho. I see him roaming the side lines of a major FBS program in a coordinator role.

I stopped liking Hawkins the last game between BSU and ISU. They were up about 60 - o in the fourth quarter, supposedly running the ball in order to take time off of the clock, and BSU called a long pass for another touchdown. I felt like it was truly poor sportsmanship on someone's part. I would prefer not to have Hawkins here.

For obvivous reasons, I like Hawkins. I think he could bring back some swagger to the Bengals. Upside... he gets about $1.8 million buy out of his contract from Colorado, so money for him is not going to be a big deal. I think ISU would give him an opportunity to start over, bring in Idaho athletes, put that chip on the shoulders of the players (something that he couldn't do at Colorado) and build a resume for himself while rebuilding the Bengal football program. He's not afraid to go out to the community for support, for donations for capital improvements. Please keep in mind he was making somewhere close to Coach Z's salary when he started at BSU. He'll find the assistant coaches that fits his brand of football. Downside... short term solution for the Bengals.

I'm not really sure how short term a solution it would be. He's seen the top of the mountain, got chewed up and spit out. He might like the slower lifestyle of FCS. Plus if it could start his son on a coaching career I could see where he would jump at the opportunity.

Oh boo hoo, play to the whistle even if you're up 100-0. I'd go for it. The other team's feelings are not my concern.

I'd like Hawkins here, I think he'd fit in.

Hawkins may be thinking he should have never left Boise State right about now (actually he probly should have been thinking that for a while) and i agree with your take bio, that Hawkins would see coaching at ISU as a shameful return...more importantly i want to point out that Hawkins was fired following 5 straight losses and with 3 games remaining on Colorado's schedule (hint hint tingey).

excuse me:

HINT HINT TINGEY!!

When Hawkins was hired as the head coach at BSU, he was given the keys to a cadillac and told not to crash it. Koetter had just left to take the job at Arizona State after leading the Broncos to 2 consecutive 10 win seasons. Koetter recommended a WR coach out of Oregon to become OC, some guy named Chris Petersen.

Hawkins didn't build up BSU, and he didn't build up Colorado. He is no sportsman, and he had his son passing in the 4th quarter, up 28 points, so he could get the Colorado all passing record, instead of trying to run out clock. Talk about nepotism. Had he actually coached with brains last weekend, he'd be finishing out the season.

If ISU hired him, he'd pull a stunt like Dennis Erickson and jump after one year if offered a high profile job.
