Alex Kennedy: Davion Berry will play for the Portland Trail Blazers' summer league team, according to a source. Twitter @AlexKennedyNBA - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.3M0FX7lI.dpuf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Any need for Dev now? Doesnt look too good in portland

Signing a contract and winning a roster spot are two different things. I think that Dev will have a great shot at beating him out for a spot on the bench. I am sure that his contract is not guaranteed, as no second rounders or min salary contracts are. If Dev doesn't make Portland's squad, I think he will have a good chance to land somewhere good, NBA or otherwise. :thumb: :thumb:

Dude, Steve Blake wouldn't sign a non-guaranteed contract. Blake's on the team and Dev ain't "beating him out".

Blazers now have the max of 15 signed players. Berry's best shot is to impress enough in Summer League play to get signed by another team.

If there is any guarantee at all, it is a partial money guarantee and not a roster spot guarantee. For now, Blake is the 15th player on the working list. When the season starts, NBA teams are allowed to suit up 12 guys. They can keep an additional 3 in various, non active statuses. Most NBA teams have 8 or 9 guys who are solid on the roster and the rest are subject to a lot of movement. Regardless of contract situations, coaches and managers are going go with the guys whom they think will help them win. We have seen the Jazz pay on contracts for guy who were not part of their 15 man list and never suited up for practice, let alone games. If there were no chance of any of these guys making a team, there would be no summer leagues. The Jazz have cut guys on contract and signed free agents many times over the years.

Dev has a chance. :coffee:

If Dev has a chance it's to beat out Crabbe or Claver, but not Blake.

Dev has really nothing going for him unless he plays extremely well in the summer league. Again coming from the big sky is a downfall so his college numbers arent taken as serious. the summer league is going to be his best bet to make a roster spot and with the signing of blake as the 15th spot I dont see him playing for the Blazers unless Dame really helps him out

Olds, I am sorry but this outlandish post will officially drop your fan board RPI. Steve Blakes deal is totally guaranteed for two years and yes it comes with a roster spot. A player does not sign a deal on the first day of free agency that is not guaranteed.

Even before the signing of Blake I wondered why Dev would go to a team with so many guards under contract. Why not go to a place that is over the salary cap and needs some filler at the end of the roster. The tough part about going to another team for fall camp is that you have less time to learn their system and the other FA rookies that played Summer ball have a leg up on you.

If this was the Knicks, I could see Damians influence mattering in Dev making the team. (They gave JR Smiths brother a roster spot, even though he was getting out played by others).

Dev was the only person who DNP. Not playing in summer league, I just dont see it happening unfortunately. Maybe he will get something over seas

This is a bit of an exaggeration. Dev was one of (5) players on the team that didn't play yesterday. No doubt the odds aren't in his favor along with 90% of the unsigned guys at summer league. That said its an opportunity, if he plays in one game or five he just has to make the most of it.

I think he was referring to the Portland summer team, Dev was the only Trailblazer not to play.

The game is on the watch ESPN app today at 630. I'm really hoping he plays because I have a feeling he will show up if given the opportunity. I think he does have a chance because Mo Williams and Earl Watson are free agents. Also, none of the guards who played yesterday performed well. Will Barton was 4-11 and had a couple of embarrassing turnovers, Allen Crabbe was 1-5 and McCollum was also 4-11. I do see McCollum as a virtual lock to stay with the team but Davion has a chance if he can beat out Will Barton and the other no name guys.

The whole Weber nation needs to send Davion some good vibes today!

I understood what he meant. Keith Appling, Jonathan Gibson, Matthew Bryan-Amaning & Myers Leonard are also on the summer league roster and didn't play yesterday. Hence Dev being the only Trailblazer not to play is an inaccurate statement.

I thought Myers Leonard was a part of the signing of Chris Kaman. If so, he would not be in Vegas, at least not with Portland, would he?

I guess he's still with the team, but...

"Big man Meyers Leonard will sit out when the Blazers play Houston, the second consecutive game he will miss because of a strained left shoulder."

On the ESPN mobile site it had Dev as the only person who did not play. Thats where I got the info. Last on the box score and the only one with 0 min. Yes it is a long shot. hopefully he can make it. Two cats in the NBA with the possibility of 3 with Bolomboy would open the door to a whole new world for us. Also Will Cherry making some waves. I still think he a punk but its good for the sky.

In the game today (Tue. July 15) Davion got put in the final quarter during garbage time with a little over four minutes left. He didn't do anything to embarrass himself, but neither did he do anything to enhance himself. He missed one wide open three and another driving shot from the baseline that was was in and out, but wouldn't have counted anyway because of an offensive fowl by another player. He had no points, no fouls and I think no rebounds although he may have gotten one. I don't remember him making any turnovers or making any bonehead errors.
