Defense Issues?

Is anyone else seeing a trend? I am confused how Coach can make the following quote when they give up 50% shooting on defense. It looked bad on TV. Here is the quote:

"On a night where you shoot the ball poorly you have to rely on great defense and great ball handling, especially against a team that is pressing the entire 40 minutes,” said Eastern head coach Jim Hayford. “We did an above average job of a couple of those things. We did well defensively, and we did a decent job against a real good rebounding team."

I hope they figure this out soon. Not so sure about first in the Big Sky. Second is probably a better bet.

Can't win games by shootng 22% of our three point shots :?
We shot poorly but still managed a close game :)
Talent is there but the shots just didn't fall.
Learning is getting there.
The team will be ready by the time the conference games come
Go eags :thumb:

You are correct. We have to shoot better or take better shots or play better defense. I would take any of those three! We will become better. Just a matter of time. I was surprised at the number of turnovers tonite to.

I too was surprised by the number of turnovers. It is the ONLY facet of the game where we are consistently good. Our defense continues to be bad, and it baffles me too how Coach can say it was "pretty good" when we allow a team to shoot 50%. And, after being outrebounded at home by 21 against Idaho, we got outrebounded again. It doesnt seem to me like we want to do anything that is difficult like play defense, rebound, or work to get a high percentage shot. It's not looking good to me at this point. Hopefully we will begin to see some improvement soon.

With football now over we can focus on basketball! Big game tonight in California. Hopefully the team will compete with the heart that the football team did on Saturday. I think we should get a nice blow out win and be on track to compete for a Big Sky Championship!
