Defensive stats

Some mentioned defense in an earlier thread. Here's our current stats compared to our conference members... http://www.bigskyconf.com/custompages/football/2013/stats/confldrs.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like we are a solid #9 out of 13 members

Here's our stats nationally out of 122 FCS members.. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs/current/team/22/p1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Total "D" we are 85th...out of all the defensive stats are best ranking seems to be rushing defense at 60th(passing yards allowed 100th).

Looks like there's room for improvement.

I think it will. We've played two FBS teams and two top 10 FCS teams in the first half of our schedule. Throw out the fourth quarter vs. Montana and we've seen some solid D in the last 4 games.

Thanks for sharing. EWU has played a difficult schedule, only SHSU and Toledo had reasonable run games before we faced Montana. The three top rushing teams are still on the schedule. Expect EWU to hold them to under 200 yds and make them pass to beat us. Hope the safeties get healthy :-).

D line play is downright exciting and showing a lot of leadership on the team, looking for more out of the young LB's (Hamlin is making a lot of stops). Can feel this whole team is about to take off offensively and defensively as the effort is tremendous. They can be nearly as dominant in the BSC as Alabama is in the SEC the rest of the way out. Feeling a little Hyper-Homer.

There has been some criticism on the chat line of Zlystra being overzealous. I would say with Katoa out we are very fortunate to have Dylan and Andru in the middle of the d line. Who was it that made the big play to beat the Bobcats in Bozeman last year - was anyone complaining about that guy having too much emotion?

I would be one of those critical of a couple of his actions in last Sat. game. In fairness should mention ALL of the outstanding actions and I probably do not realize how difficult it is to be an aggressive animal during the play and become a model citizen the next second, but that is the nature of the game. He was definately a force to be reconed with on the D-line. I love his WFO motor and he brings a lot to the D-line but if any player gets personal foul penalties on a regular basis it diminishes his contribution to the team. It is a team sport.

Seems like this was a one off game for Dylan as I haven't heard his name called in the past for this type of extra curricular play. Don't care for management by exception and the team will learn from this lesson. Move on and let's get ready to put it to ISU and the rest of the schedule. No road let downs this week :-)

I'm sure he got an earful from the coaches this week, but it's not like he pulled a Golden Tate. He just gave bad refs a reason to throw a flag when they were looking for one. Not smart, but not the end of the world either.

+1

Love the run game. EWU has 180 + first downs (ranks 16th) 79 running and 103 passing. Pretty good balance. 1300 rush yds at 4.51 an attempt, 2725 yds passing at 10.17 per completion. 65th is rushing is WAY better than a year ago. The backs are running with a vengeance this season and the line is playing well.

Turnovers jump out at me the most. There is definitely an upper echelon and we are not in it.

cut and paste does not work very well, we are mid pack well behind the Mont schools

Really kind of surprising we have the record we do given all of the stats.

Would like to think it shows how truly dominant EWU can be if miscues are eliminated. Turnover's haven't determined our fate this season (several in the redzone leaving teams a long field) and our schedule has been difficult. EWU also has a lot more BIG plays, we have scored 42 TD's with 20 TD's beyond the redzone. Nearly 50%. No other school in the BSC can touch that stat. Big play VA :-)

Disagree. Switch our games against SHSU, OSU, and Toledo with top 3 OOC opponents of any BSC team or for that matter, top 25 FCS and you'd see our stats dramatically improve...probably T.O. margin too.

EG: How much better would our defensive stats look if we had faced Arizona, UC Davis (non conference), and USD instead?

How about Uconn, Delaware State, and Holy Cross?

Those are the OOC of two highly regarded FCS defenses.
