Disappointing Couple Weeks

Ugh...I thought for sure we would beat PSU last saturday and thought we would play our best game against the Griz last night, neither happened and now we are in 7th place in the conference, on the outside looking in.

We have to beat MSU tomorrow and we need to win against NAU on the road and Sac State at home following that to have a shot at a decent seed, or even making the playoffs. We can't afford to lose many more games, because we still have to play at Weber. We have a shot at the 4th seed still, but we have to win both of our games against ISU, win the rest of our home games and possibly win at PSU.

With such a promising start, it has been a tough stretch the past couple weeks. I have faith that the team can start pulling it together but it feels like we have been waiting for them to do it now for close to a month.

I am sorry but we are not a very good team this year. By taking out the smaller guards and putting in Johnson and Chiverten (sp) we have more turnovers and a poorer defense. The eagles are just not big enough yet. You could see that last night and in the Webber game. Not just height but strength, Montana was just stronger. Even Portland pushed us into the basket area, getting good inside shots. Last night was a very physical game.
I know that coach is doing a great job and has been recruiting bigger stronger athletes and that will take at least two more years. I hope the eagles can recover, I don't want us to be his first lossing season.

You hit it on the head. Our defense is swiss cheese. Giving up 43 points in a half to Montana is ridiculous. Our size isn't the problem as we are more athletic. If it is a losing season, Coach owns it and it his. I am a fan, but this isn't all the players fault.

I agree and disagree with wiseoldowl: we are not a very good team, but it has nothing to do with size (agree with 1990). At the end of last year, we beat Montana while holding them to 40-some points in regulation and 55 in OT. Montana lost 7-0 all-conf Quale off of that team and we lost Dean and essentially replaced him with Chiv. So, Montana got smaller and we got bigger and stronger. Yet, last year's team was much better defensively and did so without fouling like wild banshees!

Last year defensive fg%: 43.8% This year: 44.9%
Last year 3pt defense %: 34.6% This year: 36.8%

Our FT attempts this year: 381 Opponents: 634!!!!


And last year's team had a bunch of guys playing their first year of D1 ball and had to deal with an incredible number of injuries. This year's team is bigger/stronger/more experienced than last year's team and should be noticeably better on both ends of the floor, but we simply arent, and it has nothing to do with size.
