Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are. For me, since Coach Mac left it's been getting harder and harder to support the program, for various reasons, including crap like this.

Hogwash!! I'd believe Benedict Arnold before Jordan or Jeff. For most fans Weber football has been a tough program to support. Discipline has been restored at Weber. I wouldn't worry too much about this. Ha, nice piece of yellow journalism Roy. Lol

I just found out from a friend of Jordans, that he played the entire season, and that he quit because he wasn't awarded a scholarship. So I guess he was so mad about the comments Belford made that he quit after the season ended, and once he found out that he wasn't going to get a scholarship awarded. Wow, Roy should be taken off the Wildcat Beat for this crap story. Do your research Roy. It took me five mins to look at the game rosters to see that Main played the entire season, and then to ask one person to find out the truth. I'm not even going to go into Jeff Gueck right now. Dude was terrible and lost his spot to a RFr and an incoming Fr. Guess it kinda makes sense why he has an ax to grind.

It may be hogwash, but not talking to the media about it does not look good. The whole "we are a family and we will handle it as family" mentality is a crock. This is the same mentality that Penn State used in the Jerry Sandusky case. In todays social media world, information gets out quickly. Why not be upfront and tell the media you are handling the situation?

Webergrad you make a great point. I agree with you. Sears should have been open and honest about the team meeting. Even if the meeting was about the incident. If the meeting was about what would happen if any further incidents were to occur (I'm assuming that that was what the meeting was about). Great point.

I just don't want a witch hunt right now. Our football team needs stability and this story only hits at the delicate foundation being created right now. Sears is here for at least this season and from the times I've met with him I think he is a solid and dedicate person. We need stability right now, or the other option will be ISU level of football. :?

I'm more inclined to believe current members of the team than disgruntled ex participants. It was a reckless article with little objectivity. However, Roy is leveling serious accusations and those claims need to be addressed by coaches and current players.

Clear the air now. Don't let this become a distraction. :coffee:

WSU Police: Sears cleared; iPod case open

http://www.standard.net/stories/2013/08/14/wsu-police-sears-cleared-ipod-case-open

Sears said, as a first-time head coach, he went out of his way to follow protocol.

“We’re trying to do the right thing here,” Sears said. “I’m gonna try — no, I’m not gonna try, I’m going to follow the process, follow the chain of command and I’m going to do everything I possibly can not to throw any of my guys under the bus. I want to take each situation in this whole program and teach these men how to do the right thing, how to make the right choices. There’s a proper protocol for every matter and as coaches, we’ve got to take each individual scenario and use it as a teachable moment. From the get-go, that’s what we were all about here. There was never any intent, any intimidation or anything like that at all. . . . I emphatically, directly, never did threaten anybody’s scholarship at all and nor would I ever do that. I’m not that kind of person.”

Not a great week for WSU football to say the least. This team is thoroughly embarrassing itself AND the University and the season hasn't even started yet. I really don't think another 2 win season will help things AT ALL.
I will be at every home game this season but I am finding that it has gotten MUCH harder to sale this program to my friends and neighbors who don't already go to the games.
How in the hell did this program drop back down to this level so quickly? :wall:  :wall:

Yeah, the timing couldn't have been any worse. Between iPod-Gate and the NCAA investigation, WSU Football is already in a bad publicity hole. As to how the drop occurred so quickly, who knows? There's always a drop when there is a coaching change, but WSU's was particularly tumultuous with the John L. Smith fiasco. It could be a few seasons before we see a winning team on the field. In the meantime, all we can do is stay the course and cheer them on as they progress. :|

I think it's a little soon to say we are in a big hole. Let's go ahead and play the season then decide. Win the first game and I'm sure fans and players will forget about a few math issues and a stolen I-pod. I'm friends with a few former players who are close with the team and they said that most players arent worred about this and that moral is high. When you get 100 kids from around the country together, not everything is going to be perfect.

Good points one and all. Let's remember, that the great majority of our student athletes are awesome , solid citizens/students. Embarrassing?...yes but I have to LOL when someone wants to compare this ipod thing to Penn State  . It IS unacceptable in EVERY sense of the word but hardly SanduskyGate.
I get as frustrated as ya'all with 2 win seasons. Heck, I firmly believe that our minimum expectations EVERY year should be getting to the Playoffs. This is the program that I want to see. NOT supporting is NOT an option for me.

 :notworthy:

I wasn't comparing the situation to the Penn State scandal. I was mentioning that when they called the Penn State AD on the lack of reporting, He said that Penn State was a family and we handle these issues within the family.

Coach Sears used almost the same wording in explaining how they were dealing with IPOD gate. Our staff and administration did not handle the PR side of this very well.

iPOD gate?!?!? WTF????? The fing ipod was returned, the coach was fired, all of that was handled in house, where is the controversy??? The iPOD when it was stolen was reported to the campus police. What more do you want and expect??? Do you expect the FORMER assistant coach to do jail time?? The football staff nor the AD were trying to cover any thing up. There were consequences for the theft and the stolen merchandise was returned. :tothehand:

I guess the controversy revolves around the kid claiming that he felt pressured to drop the charges and not have it go to court after the iPod was returned. It sounds a little like he is backtracking on some of that now. Sometimes these young people are quite sensitive and perceive things a bit different than the rest of us might. At any rate, the bigger issue is the academic problems that may have occurred in the past, most of it when the current group of coaches and players were not even around. It sounds like we caught it and have done the right things to correct it. It still could result in penalties. :coffee:
