This actually makes me nervous. The way our athletics have been handled lately and how that community is growing it makes we worry that Dixie could now pass Weber as well. Weber really needs to be proactive or we will find ourselves in a pretty bad position in the not too distant future.

This should absolutely worry Weber and it will all but destroy SUU. Can't imagine either school is in support of this. The competition for recruits alone should really worry them both. Dixie's football and basketball facilities are already better than half the Big Sky's, including SUU's crappy football stadium. St George has the population growth, economy, weather, and proximity to Vegas and California that should make them successful at the D1 level. And the WAC is already a better basketball conference than the Big Sky. This will only help the WAC move further ahead. Honestly, if Weber was smart they would immediately start talking with the best schools in the Big Sky and WAC about starting their own conference. I'd love a conference of Weber, New Mexico St, Idaho, Montana, Montana St, Northern Arizona, Eastern Washington, Idaho St (with the promise that they upgrade their basketball facility) for all sports and football, and UVU and Grand Canyon.

As said before, Dixie St will go to a suddenly smaller Big Sky. Metro State of Denver will also join. Later, CWU and Azusa Pacific May join but there are limits of how many call ups can be taken in one year.

Weber St, the Montanas, Idaho and EWU will join the Summit League.

Denver, the Dakotas and Omaha will be there welcoming the new arrivals.

The goal will be a MAC-like FBS league and maybe a two-bid basketball league.

The new Big Sky will be Idaho St, UVU, SUU, Dixie St, NAU, NoCo, Metro St, Portland St, Seattle, CWU and Azusa.

The WAC will get Sac St, Cal Poly, UC Davis, Sam Houston St, Lamar, McNeese St, Incarnate Word, Oral Roberts and UTRGV will start fb.

Sioux, I've always thought you are a bit off. But, after talking to some people in the "know" splits might be coming. I'm just hoping Weber finds its way into the "right" split and that we don't fall on our sword over "traditional" rivalries etc. Playing against Montana is far more important than SUU. Well, at least to me.

What will push the splits? CWU is the next DII to move up, but it will probably stop there with DII's. Probably, what's going to happen is Grand Canyon adds football along with a couple of California and Texas schools. Spit balling here, but like St. Mary's, Pacific, Riverside, Irvine, Long Beach (not saying any will, just giving examples). There are a number of schools that recognize that it is a now or never move. Budgets and the economy is going to allow programs to make these moves, but the easy money won't last long. No matter, like I said in the other thread, football is expensive. Without FBS games on our schedule, the Cats wouldn't be able to afford the program. We have to play at least one a year.

Don't get me started with the management of athletics and the lack of initiative and innovation. It really is time for Jerry to get called to the carpet and challenged. There needs to be expectations and revenue growth. The athletic budget has been stagnant for far too long. However, because of Jerry we might find our way into the "right" conference when all is said and done. He has good connections and longevity. I just wish he would get a serious about marketing and fan growth. He has told me in the past that he wanted to focus on facilities, graduation, and academics, which he is awesome at. However, now we need to make money and build a fan base. That starts with getting students out to the games. That is the foundation for a future fan base and the guy in charge of that is a twit.

As for Dixie...it is done. Now Weber has to grow and face up to the challenge. I know there is a lot of talk about growth in Washington County, but the Wasatch Front is growing pretty fast too. Unfortunately, Weber County is going to grow insanely in the west and in central Ogden. It is already happening. The question is how do we take advantage of this growth as a university and as an athletics program?

Weber St, Idaho, the Montanas and probably EWU will be heading for the Summit League shortly. Most posters everywhere thought I was a moron for posting this a year ago. But there was just too many meetings between the WAC and Big Sky and Summit back in 2011 to recognize something was happening. Those league want in on the CFP in 2025 again. They had too many financial and stadium issues back in 2011, but will be in good shape for an upcoming FBS transition.

EWU needs to announce its stadium plans though.
