Donatas committed to us tonight. He has the potential to be a very good stretch 4 for us and possibly work his way into playing at the 3.

Welcome to WSU Donnie. :thumb:

What is your problem? You have spent a few weeks searching Oldrunners posts and then you make posts trolling him. Are you Stutzmans dad or brother? This is a Weber State fan forum if you don't have anything to post other than to troll somebody. Go away! The ban hammer will be coming out soon.

Since Donatas is on board, we are over the 13 limit for next year. Someone on the current roster will definitely not be back next year. I wonder who? I have my opinion, but I don't want to spread rumors. I think all the players on our team are good kids and try hard, but there are a couple kids that are not D1 material. I wouldn't be surprised if we have at least 2 players leave after the season. Having said that, I love the 2 commits in this class. Both have lots of offers and look good on film and paper.

It really isn't fair to start speculating on who might leave the program. Like you said they are all good young men, persons of great value. None of us really know what may have gone on behind the scenes. I agree with you, that there could be one or two leave the program after the season is over. It always happens and is part of college basketball. The national average is over two players per team, per year. We get to know these men and we get to like them. We want to see them succede in everything they do. No matter who leaves, they will be missed. :coffee:

I really like this kid and this class. There is a lot of balance. 2 are guards and 2 are bigs. However, they are players who have strengths in different areas. It is a nice problem to have when you have players who can contribute immediately coming into your program.

It is kinda tough, but regrettably 13 = 13. Right now we have 14 including committed and currently playing players. Will be interesting to see what happens at the end of this season. Right now, no need to worry. Let the guys play and what will happen, will happen when it happens.

Wow sorry man. Last week old runner made the comparison of that kid with another player so I was asking old runner if it applies here. I will lay off old runner per your suggestion.

Shoebox, the fact you came back and made an apology shows it was probably just a misunderstanding (nobody lays of oldrunner completely -- and he can handle it).

Please keep posting and offering you opinions.

DeeScott -- that goes for you too (if you are reading). Come back and make some more posts. You'll get used to the rants.

We can use all of the new blood that we can find -- with new opinions and new viewpoints!

Okay. I'll answer your question.

No. Your son and #32 from NAU are a lot alike in that they both play the same position, on the wing, and can go inside occasionally. They both are very good outside shooters. They play a similar game, are a similar size, and a similar approach to the game.

Our new commitment is a power forward who can step out and make a three occasionally. He is bigger and more of a rebounder. They are similar only in that they are basketball players.

Also, I don't recall ever saying that your son was not a good player. I do know, from more than one coach, that your shopping him around turned some of them off on recruiting him. There are situations where an over zealous parent can hinder a players recruitment. I'm sure that it did in your son's case.

I feel that ISU was always the best place for your son, and I hope that he has a very good career there. :coffee:

Well thanks old runner for just designating me above as a new father of a college basketball player! Do I get the tax deduction for "my son" in 2017 or do I have to wait til 2018? For sure, I'll volunteer to be at least an "honorary father" or God Father cause I could be catholic. (I'll change my board name to Godfather maybe). Anywho, so lets play along- as stutzmans "father" I will be sure to tell "my son" your kind words at our family breakfast in the morning. Btw, hashbrowns and farm fresh eggs are on the menu, as they are every day, here at the farm in Pocatello. Yep we grow our own spuds and eggs. More on that later.

Back to your post about me- I appreciate your advice on the errors I, "his father" made, on and off the court, with "my son" over the years. Especially about shopping "my son." I guess that day I had 187 college coaches doing a home visit to "my son" all on the same day here in Pocatello -well, it now seems like it backfired some. I thought that it would create a little competion among all the coaches that came, but all it did was clog 3 blocks of street parking with all the cars, crowd our living room and front yard (and all our neighbors living rooms for that matter).

Thanks to your information above, it sounds like my "shotgun" strategy turned off a few coaches (got to get a gun reference in there being from Pocatello and all). Rest assured I'll tone down the recruiting with my other seven younger ball playin children even though every one of them are clearly head and shoulders better than "my son."

If no basketball coach finds my seven other kids for sports scholarships they can always skip college hoops I guess and work on the family potato farm.

Appreciate the dialog, the public call out of having a son, and your insights. These boards are so much fun. I should have been shopping "my son" here for years instead of having huge home visits with those 187 coaches. Go Big Sky! Cheers.

And yes mods, this post is tongue in cheek, as farm life in Pocatello is boring and there is not much else to do but post here. Our cable TV has been out since our goat chewed the wire many years ago. We saved on the cable bill but somehow, we are not quite sure how, our family grew and now, 8 kids later....

You guys are funny, thanks for the entertainment. Since I got called out to come and comment more, here goes. Excited about Donatas Kupsas, a great signing for Weber. He brings the toughness that Randy Rahe values so highly. Although I grew up in Idaho (not on a potato farm :-), I don't know Jared Stutzman. For the record, not all families in Idaho live on potato farms LOL. I'm glad he's having a good start at ISU and hope he can continue that, except when he plays Weber. I am very excited about the 4 guys coming in for next year. The two mission kids, Johnson and Fuller, and the other freshmen, Barnes and Kupsas. As I watch the successful teams around the country, a team has to have many good players and scorers to win consistently. We have some decent scorers currently, but Harding is our only legitimate go-to guy who can get buckets when we need them. I don't know which one (or two) it will be, but there will be more scorers next year to take the load off Harding. He'll still get his, but the scoring will come easier because the 4 guys coming in are skilled and know how to make the game easier for teammates.

Amen. I totally agree. When we lost to ISU, the first thing I saw was the disparity between the two teams scoring balance. Last week, the Cats moved the ball far better, and more guys got involved; far better scoring balance, which equaled wins. The scary thing for the Sky is that Weber has the potential to be an 80+ ppg threat. The team has weapons, but like you said, when we need points in a pinch, there is only one guy who we can only really depend on to do that, and that's Harding. I will admit though, I've noticed that if Richardson wants to play defense and is hitting shots the team plays far better. This seasons Cats kinda go the way Richardson plays. Next season, Randy should have more options. My only concern for next season is 3pt consistency.

Next year's team will have 8 or 9 players who are sophomores or freshmen. We will have 4 or 5 upperclassmen. I guess what I am saying is that we should all expect some ups and downs with next years team as well. The good news is that we have had two solid recruiting years in a row and we have more of the pieces needed to take a step up in the future. :coffee:

BTW, I have a lot of relatives who ranch and farm in Idaho. I can appreciate that life and the hardships that people in the agriculture industry go through. Thanks, shoebox. :thumb:

I sure agree with this. Richardson has improved over his four years (and he's improved tremendously as a defender) but I never feel like he's quite reached his offensive ability.

There is some real room for improvement offensively with this team. Right now we aren't getting what I think Richardson can bring, I think we'll see more balance from Baker now that he's coming off the bench, and we're getting almost zero from Chapman -- hopefully that will change.

One of the things that Rahe does bring -- his teams are usually playing at their best towards the end of the season. Hopefully we keep building momentum. I really enjoy watching this team, and watching their incremental improvements (Doc anyone?).

Chapman has been injured, can't blame him for not looking right or being able to contribute at a high level. I think we all expected more but until he is right and fully healthy we won't see the results we all want and need.

Since transferring up the road he has frequently been injured. If we can get him healthy, I have a feeling his play will just get better and better.

I found this interview about Kupsas: http://longisland.news12.com/clip/14038105/luhis-kupsas-commits-to-weber-state

It isn't very long, but I like his attitude. Can you say major steal? I'm guessing coach is going to try and play him as a 3 like Chapman. Really impressive class coming in this Fall.

Good find Purple.

I agree, that Chapman's best ball is ahead of him. We may have been expecting a little too much and he may have been a little over hyped coming out of HS. Still, he is a good player and I expect him to do good things. He is also a nice young man and good teammate.

Kupsas has a chance to be a contributor right out of the gate, if he works as hard over the summer as he is right now. I think he will, and so must our coaches.

I agree, this class and the two before it have been good to great. IMHO, If a class produces a freshman starter it is a good class. If it produces a star it is a great class.
