Bassett has been an amazing starter. It has now been 5 starts.

1. Jan 13 Idaho
2. Jan 17 @ ISU
3. Jan 20 ISU
4. Jan 24 @ SUU
5. Jan 27 @ UNC

In 5 starts he averages 19 mpg, 10.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 7 blocks, 1.4 bpg, has committed only 2 turnovers, 4-15 from 3 and 50% FG (21-42)

His stats per 40 minutes is what immediately reminded me of Brad Barton and I remember the NCAA tourney announcer in '03 saying why doesn't this guy get more minutes, he is statistically one of the best players on the team.

Bassett per 40 in his last 4 starts:
26.8 points
10.0 rebounds
3.15 steals
2.6 blocks
0.5 turnovers

Is he playing the number of minutes we might expect from him or is it gradually increasing? he played 17-19 minutes the first 3 starts, these last 2 games he played 20 then 22 minutes each. This must be incredibly frustrating for the rest of the Sky. They knew our team well and were ready for us, then out of no where we have one of the best big men in the conference starting. If this keeps up he could be the missing piece to all but guarantee us the 1-seed. We are 5-0 with him starting.

It was really impressive seeing him this past 4 days @SUU and @UNC where he averaged 14 & 5 in 21 mpg.

Last night Tew graded out a little better than Bassett. Minutes; Bassett 26, Tew 13. Rebounds; Bassett 6, Tew 3. (same) Scoring; Bassett 9, Tew 4. (+1 Bassett) Fouls; Bassett 5, Tew 2. (+1 Tew) Turnovers; Bassett 2, Tew 0. (+2 Tew) Blocks; Bassett 1, Tew 0. (+1 Bassett) Steals; Bassett 0, Tew 1. (+1 Tew)

Bassett - +2
Tew - +4

Bassett is more dynamic offensively and Tew is still a freshman and learning. I think the minutes and rotation is spot on. Now we just need to get Kozak back to 100% and in the mix.

Tew has potential. Currently, Playing like a true Freshman. He missed a bunny put back. Got beat several times on D. He is improving, but not there yet. Bassett is the better player right now. Got totally screwed on a couple of foul calls. Refs sucked last night, both teams had to deal with inconsistent refs.

Yes, Tew missed a gimme off of an offensive rebound. He was 1-2 (50%0 from the field, 2-2 from the FT line. Bassett was 4-9 (44%) from the field and also a perfect 0-0 from the FT line. Quite comparable. Did you notice that the coaches have worked with Tew on his FTs. He now puts a little arch on his shot. It paid off in this game. Bassett is still the better player, but Tew will just get better every game. He'll be a monster in the future, as long and big as he is. We are still missing the mobility and shooting that Kozak can bring when he is 100%.

Both Dante and JJ got screwed on a couple of phantom whistles. That's life. It happens everywhere. No coach has coached a perfect game, no player has played a perfect game, and no ref has ever called a perfect game. The only perfect ones are us fans.
