Drop basketball and add wrestling

I think you're being facetious, but even so, dropping basketball would be costly. While not a huge amount, you'd still lose your share of NCAA tournament money. And while a long shot, there's still the possibility down the road of the Big Sky getting an at large bid and/or winning a game - thus meaning more money.

That wrestling conference, by the way, is probably going away. There's talk that what's left of the Big 12 wrestling schools will absorb those teams under the Big 12 wrestling banner. Similar thing happened with the Pac 12. There's only 3 Pac 12 school who actually wrestle, so they have affiliate members like Boise.
 
So drop it and add a sport which has far less expense. Wrestling. Swimming. Volleyball. Bowling. Maybe you pick a sport which doesn't need 13 scholarships and 4 coaching salaries. Offering fewer scholarships also decreases the need to match those scholarships with Title IX.

This is a joke right?


You think basketball is too expensive? Seriously? The sport that every single Division I team plays? How many sports have less than 13 scholarships, honestly? Basketball makes way more money than any of the sports you name, plus the scholarship numbers are comparable. The schollie numbers are also considerably lower than track and basketball expenses are miniscule compared to football.

If a school is in such bad shape that they can't even afford men's basketball, they might as well just shut down the entire athletic department.
