Eagles offense

How do you keep the offense going?
One thing is DO NOT stop yourself! In the SUU game there were three procedure calls that brought back nice gains. One in particular lead to the blocked punt for a SUU TD. I can understand penalties when a play is underway and the players are in the "heat of the battle" but to not get lined up right is ridiculous, but it happens.
Next strategy would be to use short to medium distance passes rather than slinging it down field 50 yards every other series. We do not seem to take advantage of our WR height advantage. Our receivers are great at YAK so 5-10-15 yd passes will lead to 10-15-20 gains and TD's. That softens up the middle for QB draw plays, screens, roll out and dump off to tight end.
Our best defense against their triple option O is to keep them off the field with long sustained drives. Keeps our D fresh and we play from a lead. Other than the ND game, we are a 27-32 point offense. If we get in a track meet with CP, we loose. Their lowest scoring game was against Wyoming at 28 points. Other than that they score in the 40's regularly.

I've said it before... Redzone TDs. If we can figure out how to get reliable TDs in the redzone we'll win out and have a great playoff run.

And how is that different from any football team?

That's one area where I think our play calling could be much better. If Adams is in, roll him out along with Forte on an option play. If Padron is in and there's more than 5 yards to go, line up 4 or 5 wide with a QB draw up the middle. We just seem too predictable in the red zone. We need to take advantage of our players' strengths and opponent mismatches. :twocents:

If it was Mike then yes . . .
If it was Paul then yes . . .
but, not Beau, I can't second-guess Beau or offer advice on offense.

We lost at SUU. 3 tries from our own two to get a TD settled for a FG, Int for SUU TD, Fumble on our own 10, 2 sacks against a team that gives up 3.5 a game, missed FG, etc.

Man up, beat Cal Poly.
One game at a time.
Period.

We do have too many procedure penalties. Period. The first game I can understand. Against Idaho we had enough for a whole season. Have to improve. The other area I am disappointed in is our inability to make the tough catch and the high number of dropped passes. We have quality receivers, and not just the big 3. Clark and Mitchell, and our TEs can catch. Why the drops? No names here, but a couple last week changed the outcome. Make the catch and we don't fool with the FG.
