The last game of the year (finally), and its against the #2 team in the country. EWU has two top level, NFL receivers in Kupp and Bourne (the latter a Portland kid) and has a great QB to throw them the ball (Gubrud, McMinnville kid). Maybe the weather will help us but no doubt Seisay and Coleman will have their hands full.. Also, Viks have a short week to prepare with the game on Friday night. Maybe we can get the upset?
 
We seem to play Eastern pretty tough in recent seasons, but with the best scoring offense versus the second worst scoring defense, this may get ugly in a hurry.

Hopefully we can put together a good game an pull the upset.
 
I was planning on coming to the game but all of the negative activity in Portland is giving me second thoughts. Is it worth the hassle or should I just stay home?

I haven't read that there's been any protest activity in the area near the stadium, but I may have missed it.

I myself am much more concerned about our defense vs protest activity in the city.

Any interruption to mass transit? I planned on taking the red line in from the airport.
 
We do this stuff in Portland all the time. Just allow yourself a little extra time between arrival at PDX and game time. You'll be fine.

Hopefully it won't be an issue by Friday. It seems most of the marching starts about 8pm, so you should be in the stadium by then. Any disruptions that happen, the transit police are usually on top of it, so if it does happen, just listen to them and they will direct you.

My opinion, I doubt you will have any issues. Have a safe trip. :thumb:

To the contrary, my friend. I like what I saw from the youngsters in this game and during the season. We'll need to find us a quarterback next year but I think we are not as far away from success as we have been in the past. I'm thinking two years, but we'll see what happens next year.

I know it was not the year you were hoping for, but I think PSU has a great coach and some exciting young players and will be a force in the Big Sky in the near future.
 
This season didn't exactly go as planned.

I will say this. It could have been really easy for our guys to roll over with us being huge underdogs to the #3 ranked team. They came out ready to play last night and I think that's a testament to the players that are in this program and the coaching staff.

I honestly thought we had a possible upset on our hands last night when we forced an EWU third down up 14-0, only to mutter to myself moments later "hey, look how far that guy in the white uniform is behind that guy in the green uniform." Ugh. Well, at least we only had three penalties. Lowest of the season I believe.

Well, let the off season chatter of transfers, who's going to be under center come spring, and how we're going to fare in the Big Sky in 2017 begin.

Besides a "star QB" we need coaches that know how to teach blocking, tackling, ....

I've been hearing that, too. In order to win in the Big Sky, you need consistency at the quarterback position, or like Gubrid for EWU this year (and Kuresa last year), someone who comes out of the preseason absolutely on fire. I'm thinking next year we get back near the top but just miss out on the playoffs, but watch out in year 2018.

There is a lot of homegrown, Portland talent on the rosters of other teams in the Big Sky. Ducks and Beaver fans do not take kindly to their coaching staff when an Oregon kid comes back and burns them big time. Barnum and his coaching staff need to be held accountable whenever a player from Portland goes to EWU or Montana (or anywhere else in the Big Sky) and emerges as a first or second team all-conference player.

You can go to Missoula or Cheney and find out that you matter, that the stands are mostly full, there's facilities (at least in Montana's case), and there's some semblance of media exposure.

Then there's Portland. Great urban environment, drastically few people give a damn about the athletic program.

The coach can be a function of overcoming this... but the program sells itself MORE than the coach does.
