This is an email I sent to Jerry Bovee yesterday.
"Hello Jerry, my name is Ryan Hennessy and I'm a big fan of Weber State athletics. I want you to know that a lot of us Wildcat fans are pleased with everything you have done so far for our University, there is two questions I have though.
A while back, Weber State used to have a cannon that they fired off when the Wildcats came out of the locker rooms and when they scored. What would the possibility be of bringing this cannon back? I think it would be awesome, and would add to the atmosphere of Stewart Stadium.
Also I'm not sure picking the Football helmet logo is up to you or not, but what are the chances that Weber can bring back the "Go W" back and put them on our current helmets?
Thank you for your time Jerry and keep up the good work.
GO WILDCATS"
And this is the reply I got
"Hey Ryan, thanks for the note and the vote of confidence. I love being here at Weber State and helping to move the program along. I spent many days roaming the campus and attending games as a young man and this place means a great deal to me.
As to your questions, first, I will check on the cannon. I don't know why it ever went away but I'll look into it. We are working to come up with some fun and exciting ways to bring the team out that will be fun. I'll check on the cannon!
The helmet logo is up for review but I can tell you, institutionally I don't see the move back to the "Go W" occurring. There are a lot of issues that come into play with official marks and the "Flaming W" is at the core here. I am working on some options with a "W" that will be more athletic in nature but there is much that needs to occur for that to become reality. It is not just an athletic issue and affects the entire institution. I have looked at "W"'s from all over the country in an effort to come up with options that fit the marks of the university while also meeting the needs of athletics. So, just know, I'm pushing for some change in that area.
Thanks for your support! We need more like you Ryan!
Go Wildcats..."
Jerry has done a lot for us since he has become our AD, I have been very impressed and appreciate everything he has done for Wildcat athletics
And I hope he can figure out where the cannon is hiding and BRING IT BACK. :notworthy:
Looks like Weber is getting a new W here soon, I have nothing against the Wildcat in the sheild logo, I think its the coolest logo out there, but it is not helmet friendly, whereas a large bold W is.
