EWU 4th in Coaches Poll 3rd in Media

When was the last time we were picked to finish that low in the Big Sky? Fine by me....for the first time in a few years, EWU has to come out and prove they were underrated. :thumb:

4th place is going to be tough for EWU this year. You guys have the schedule from hell. I wouldn't want to have to play it. That being said, I'm not crazy about our schedule either. Definitely would like to have E.Wash or MT on the schedule. I really think UND makes the playoffs this season, but I would like to do so having played a few tough teams so UND goes into the playoffs prepared. We do get NAU in the season finale.

sf512 makes a good point. EWU's schedule IS from hell and the OOC schedule even hellier. Many good teams this year in the BSC and if you're one of the teams who miss tougher opponents and have a favorable home/away schedule all the better. North Dakota is good plus they miss EWU, UM, PSU and get NAU at home. NAU gets EWU and UM at home and misses PSU/Cal Poly. PSU misses UM, MSU, NAU and North Dakota with Cal poly at home. I think PSU should be favored and gonna be tough for the at large bids!!!

I really hope I'm wrong, but I think this year could be trouble. If we don't come out of the gate strong, I'd have a tremendous fear that the team just doesn't get in synch. That's often the worst thing that can happen, because if you can't build confidence early, the rest of the season becomes a bear.

On the flip side, I was pretty concerned going into 2010 as well, and that obviously proved unfounded.

A lot will hinge on us showing huge improvement on D. Frankly, I think we'll know really early on what we've got. Giving up a lot of points to WSU wouldn't necessarily be devastating; that's a great offense. But if NDSU, typically a slower-paced offense now with a new QB, can mow us down, that's a bad indication.

Everything hinges on how much the D has improved. Our offense will be young and inconsistent.

I agree. Improvement on D is the key this year. Without it, not much will change for the better. Our O will put up enough points for us to win games if the D can show up. Not worried about giving up yardage as much as "can we force turnovers?" Turnover margin wins games.

go eags!

Rankings don't really matter when it comes to the playoffs, strength of schedule. West Ill got in at 6-5 last year that included losing three in a row.

Check their schedule from last year, brutal. Look familiar?

EWU will improve as the year goes along as long as major injuries are avoided.

I read some quotes from Coach Beau that said there was a major shift in how offseason workouts were being performed, they have been watching the injuries pile up the last 3 years and hopefully that has driven some tremendous change.

No one likes seeing kids getting hurt.

To All,
I don't put much in the Polls. We will see once the team get on the field and perform. Granted we will have a tough 3 games begin the season. EWU will perform to its best. We have some outstanding Recruits that will fill in for the Seniors that have graduated. BTW Wednesday was the last 7 on 7 until about Aug. I was told by the Players yesterday that Recruits should be back Aug 7th, and the others Aug 8th. My daughter and myself will be lost for about two weeks, nothing to do at EWU. Maybe I will go out to see how all the work is going around Campus. Heard we have a $6 Million Dollar Shortage, so don't know how the rest of construction will get going, i.e. PUB, New Science Bldg, etc. No Injuries that I can tell, after the practice yesterday, even Conner Baumann, DL is out of his walking Cast, and walking with a little limp. He had Ankle Injury last year. He can't wait to get back on the Field. He doesn't know if he will be ready for this year. Have a Great Summer. Vic Wallace

Spot on.

UND has a good young QB and RB, and a solid defense. PSU gets a really favorable schedule and returns quite a bit. NAU might be the best team in the conference and will be there in the end if they hold serve. Griz have less experience at the skill positions and lose a couple of great defenders but tend to re-load on that side of the ball.

I'd go:

PSU and NAU
Montana, EWU, UND
Weber, Poly

Weber returns practically everyone and also has a favorable schedule. They might be the dark horse.

I'd put UNC in there based on some young talent and decent record last year. But last year's schedule was very easy and UM, NAU, UND all come to Greeley this year and they have away games in Cheney and Portland.

Poly has some coaching changes and loses Brown. Protheroe is a real good back and the back up QB saw quite a bit of playing time when Brown went down last year. If the defense plays better they could be in the mix.

There are no locks and you could shake up the top 6 in a bunch of different ways.
