EWU @ Cal Poly: GDT

I am really looking forward to this game. I think offensively, EWU will be able to roll on and probably put up some more big numbers. At the same time, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the D does against a different style attack. In recent years, even with Eastern's D as bad as it's been, they've been able to hold their own. This season, EWU seems to be improving on D in almost every game, and this will be a chance to measure where the team is sitting heading into the playoffs.

These last three games make me nervous. I feel most confident about this one because of how our defense has played against them in the past. ISU and PSU always seem to make things challenging for us so.

Really looking forward to this game. Really impressed with EWU and it will be a huge challenge for the Mustangs. I think EWU will score a ton of points, but I think so will Cal Poly. Can we keep up? Not sure but look forward to it. The big difference between our offense this year compared to last is we can pass this year. In fact we lead the FCS in passing efficiency. Last year we rushed for 503 and only passed for 16. I expect at least 100 yards passing and that makes our offense a lot more difficult to defend.

Should be a high scoring game. This game will be much tougher than any BSC game we've played to date. Cal Poly is good and we will need to bring our A game to win, especially on the road.

They are always a well coached team and the triple option is tough to defend when you don't see it much.

I think we win, but it will be close. We've had Poly's number the last few years...

I had written this game off as a L a couple weeks ago, but upon further review Cal poly hasn't been playing amazing and EWU has. No one is keeping up with an all cylinders firing ewu team.

I would give us an 80% win chance going down to fair weather California, i think in some ways Cal Poly would have a better chance playing in crappy weather in Cheney.

49-24 in a not very close game. I'll let Cal poly lead at the half though, 17-14 on an end of half field goal.

SloStang has some valid points! Last year Cal Poly and EW going to overtime to decide the game. And yes Cal Poly has the former National high school player of the year Dano Graves who can really throw the ball!

I think it will be closer than that. I think SDSU is pretty similar to us in a lot of ways, and Cal Poly beat them. I agree with SloStang in regards to Poly's ability to pass now, whereas in the past, we've really been able to focus solely on their run game, and have done well game planning for it.

I think you hit the nail on the head about the weather. Bad weather would've favored their run game, I think there were several plays against Montana that were impacted by the rain, including one of the INT's. (That being said, I thought EWU receivers could catch the ball in the rain, and many of the Griz receivers could not. Our receivers are tremendous!)

Poly's D is statistically very similar to ours, but with playing somewhat lighter competition. Offenses can produce against them, and in that nice weather, it should be smooth sailing for our Offense. I think the D is continuing to grow, and though it seems to take a few series each game to get dialed in, once they do, they are executing very well.

Of the next three games, this is the toughest one, IMO, with the PSU "rivalry" game being next. If we don't boatrace ISU, I will be surprised!

I think with the anomalies that Cal Poly brings to the table, I see 55 - 38.

Many reasons for the game to look like this. No disrespect to CP, but they let me down at UND (pick at the end sucked) and weak sauce with close wins against UC Davis and Sac St. Eags big in spite of CP taking dead aim at this game.

Hmm. I am least confident about this one. Their QB and FB are special players.

There have been some epic battle between us and CP in recent history and I expect this Saturday to be another. Obviously, we were very fortunate to have come out of last year's game with the W, but does anyone remember the 2011 triple OT game? Talk about one for the ages!

With how high the stakes are, each week is essentially a playoff game. This game is huge and I think it will be tough.

I agree, this looked to me like the most concerning game during the second half of the season. Cal Poly is so unique offensively that all of your previous results don't matter much when you square off with them.

did Brown run out of eligibility?

Yes. Dano Graves is our QB this year. He split starts with Brown in 2013, but was injured and Brown finished 2013 as the starter. That gave Brown a leg up in 2014. Graves redshirted in 2015 so he could start this year. Brown was more a home run runner (fast) and Dano is more of a quick runner. The thing that Dano brings is while he might not have as strong an arm as Brown, he is a way more accurate passer. In a full season last year Brown threw for 846 yards (54.9%) and 13 TDs. In 8 games Dano has thrown for 1,086 yards (66%) and 15 TDs. Last year Cal Poly averaged 478.5 yards a game (5.8 yards per play). This year we are averaging 510 yards a game (7.0 per play).

Cal Poly is very hit and miss this year. I have a feeling they will be "hit" against us... we have a giant target on our backs. And if Cal Poly could pull a W, it would mean a lot for solidifying their spot in playoffs this year.

However, from what I have seen from Cal Poly, we are much better than them. I expect this game to go similarly to the one against NAU.

Injury report? How healthy is the team?

Very healthy on offense and a little banged up on the defensive side. I believe they held out players on defensive side last week in Sac that would have played if we were playing EWU. They should be back this week.

My only concern is if we fall behind early. Cal Poly can frustrate the heck out of you with their ball control and ability to chew up the clock. This can frustrate offenses that are used to putting up a ton of points. I'm hoping for a lot of long drives on our part to let our defense consistently catch their breath. 3-and-outs have not been the norm this year for the Eags and as long as we keep them to a minimum this Saturday I think we'll be fine.

go Eags!

His coach in HS is now EWU's current QB coach/passing OC Troy Taylor. Not sure if that gives EWU any additional advantage given Poly's offensive style, but it's interesting to note.

While the games between EWU and Poly have been pretty epic over the years, I think the Eagles take this one by 14. CP has struggled with poor teams lately, while EWU has been surging on both sides of the ball. Turnovers will be huge... I think for CP to win they need to go +2, and if they go negative, no chance... Eagle offense is too good.

Is this game being streamed online?
