EWU/Griz - Alumni Appreciation Night

If you are an alumni and you register on the alumni website by 5pm tomorrow, you will receive a free ticket to the EWU/Griz game on Saturday night. Also, the first 1500 fans will receive an EWU t shirt at the entrance. Pretty sure there will be some great food specials at the game too. EWU is asking for a donation of a slightly used or new stuffed animal, donations will be accepted at the gate.

As for the game itself, I think we will beat MSU tomorrow, and if you want to watch some good B-Ball, show up to the game on Saturday. The Griz have a great team this year and it would be nice to see EWU challenge a good team on our home court. Montana tends to bring a lot of fans to these games (not football big) so hopefully EWU can bring more. Hope to see everyone there...

The Eastern admin staff are doing a GREAT job of making the game day experience exciting. It was a lot of fun tonight with the band, cheer squad, and more students.

For some reason I am really excited about this game. EWU wins a couple and Montana has a big winning streak. Should be a barn burner...or it will be a blow out on one side.

See you all tomorrow night!

Was that a 19-0 run by UM to finish the 1st half?....oh my.

Not quite but close. I think it was 28-6 run to end the half and EWU went almost 10 minutes without a bucket. Unreal.

It's apparent that we are severely under-manned in this game. Missing your best player, a starting PG, another guard, and having your leading scorer quit the team doesn't help. Still, we should be playing better that this, but UM is clearly a much better team.

Yes, UM was the better team tonight and maybe many nights but not 19 points better every night. Our guys played really hard especially on defense and never quit. The team played like a team almost the entire game. Yes we were down a couple of key players but the others did everything they could to pick up the slack. I was If we could have shot even average percentages it may have been a close game. Even if the other team is defending tough, why do we miss so many free throws?
If we get the effort I saw tonight for the balance of the season we will be in the playoff!

I thoroughly agree. There were many times during the game that you would think the game was neck and neck if you weren't aware of the scoreboard. The team kept defending and didn't put their heads down. I think the good crowd certainly helped. With Forbes and Jois back in the lineup, Montana better watch out!

After watching the game in person, here are some of my thoughts:

I was impressed with Eastern's D. They defended UM's shooters well. And there's a lot of youth and potential there.

If your Bigs can add some bulk over the off-season, they have the chance to be pretty decent players. Both have good offensive moves for big men, but they both struggle some defensively, and need to board it better.

I didn't take one of the free T-shirts (although I considered it because my car needs washing! :thumb: ).

Not sure I agree with the posters who felt this game was close, or even would have been had both teams been 100% healthy (Ward was sick as a dog, Cherry and DeShields still hobbled). After the first 3 minutes, Montana was in complete control of that basketball game. EWU played good D to make it something of a slugfest, but I think if Eastern and UM played 10 times, at least 8 of them would be 15 point UM wins. Their talent is vastly superior. I understand Eastern was playing without a few key players, but the Griz won by 19 while playing perhaps their most inconsistent offensive game of the year.

Will Cherry showed why he may be one of the best defenders in the nation with his complete shut-down of Chiverton. Man, that guy was frustrated. At one point, he chucked up a contested, off-balance 28 footer simply to get ANY shot off. Of course, he then immediately took a seat next to Jim.

Your fans -- particuarly your band -- try awfully hard, and they even made me chuckle once or twice. But they've got to learn the game a little better. I laughed so damn hard I nearly chocked on my nachos when they kept calling both DeShields and Gregory "Cherry"!! Hard to get in someone's head when you've got the wrong head!!

What was the deal with honoring the football team during a timeout and not during halftime?? All of those street shoes put crap all over the floor, and then every stoppage of play thereafter, you'd see 10 guys all wiping the bottom of their feet. That was a real bonehead decision on someone's part.

The Griz were definitely the better team and once they made their run part way through the first half it was over. The game was close early, but the best we did was cut it to 8 in the 2nd half. The Griz dominated the game and we definitely have to improve in a lot of areas. Cherry is a stud and the Griz are the class of the conference this year.

Props to the Griz coach and team during the EWU Football honoring. I saw the Griz coach turn around during the timeout and shake the EWU football players hands as they entered the court. The entire team also stood and turned and clapped during the announcement, pretty much giving up their timeout to give appreciation. I thought that was a class act....

Hey “everettgriz”
I’m surprised you didn’t complain about the kids doing the martial arts exhibition at halftime. Man, a stray splinter from the wood boards they were breaking could have maimed a Griz player.

Also, thanks for your condescending comments and encouragement for our poor team. They just might find the strength to finish the season and make it back next season now that you have noticed their potential.

Enjoy your BSC success. IF the Griz make the NCAA Tournament you will likely play a team with a lock-down defender that will shut down Mr. Cherry and your team will be one and done like last year.
