It does not make sense to me to hold him out and lose a game. If there was any way possible I would bet Venky would have been out there toughing it out.
Is it Hayford that is coddling these guys being "cute" with his coaching abilities?
Dopa, you are beating a dead horse. Coach said Venky practiced for about 15 minutes (I assume on friday after the Sac game) and could not go. This has nothing to do with a trainer deciding that a player can not go. Venky Jois is a huge competitor and he is injured. Tough people also get injured. He needs to rest and heal for the important games which are the tournament games.LDopaPDX said:clawman said:Yes, we REALLY missed Venky today. I strongly doubt Hayford is voluntarily keeping his best guys on the bench. Coaches always have a streak of pessimism in them that helps them to prepare for the worst of the "what-if" scenarios, and thus always want their talent available.
However, and I hate to beat this dead horse, I still struggle with the fact that Eastern- across all sports- seems to really have trouble keeping players healthy. And when a guy/girl goes down with a relatively ordinary injury, they seem to stay hurt for a long time. I have no idea whatsoever what the deal here is with Venky, but it just seems like Eastern (across all sports) seems to have a rash of injuries and lengthy absences for minor dings and scrapes. I doubt there are any records kept on the subject, so there'd be no empirical data to point to, but as someone who follows Eastern sports closely, I don't see other programs that seem to have these problems year after year.

Venky reaggrevated his ankle injury last Thursday and anyone that's ever had bad ankles knows that once you sprain your ankle bad you're likely to be dealing with it for a while. Tyler's injury was legit too. Those things take time to heal right and I don't blame Hayford for keeping those guys out. We need them healthy for the Tourney.
I still think the bigger concern tonight wasn't that Venky didn't play, but that Blizzard only shot the ball 2 times. Yes 2 times!!! With Venky out, Bogdan has to be his main replacement, right??? He played less minutes than Moon did though. Nothing against Moon either. I actually really like what he brings to the table but Bogdan is a special scorer. If Hayford forces/let's Blizard shoot 10 times today instead of two I think there's no way we lose that game. He's that efficient when he touches it. Few guys in the Big Sky (if any) have showed they can stop Bogdan so let's get him the ball since he's one of our best weapons.
