EWU v WSU game ticket packages available

I'd take a Montana or Oregon fan base over WSU's any day. 2012 was such a hostile environment. We had glass bottles thrown at us from a passing car outside Martin stadium. That aside, I'll be there hoping for a W over one of our two flagship schools at last. Go Eags!

Ditto. We didn't have a great experience at Martin Stadium. Games in Seattle and Eugene weren't like that. Even the fans in Moscow were pretty gracious after we gave the Vandals a beat down. Pullman was an unnecessarily hostile environment. Add to it the fact that we probably should have won that game, and the egregious cheap shot on Greg Herd, and I'll have to think long and hard about going back there for a game.

I often wonder what would have happened in that game if a young Vernon Adams had played.

I went to the game in Pullman in 2012 and I did see plenty of Coug fans acting very hostile, especially toward the end. However, I personally was not verbally harassed. That likely had to do with my wife and I wearing "Just Married-Go Eagles" shirts as we had been married the day before.

I think it's quite simple...Coug fans understand (will never openly admit) that the Eags have become a better program than WSU in the last decade. Wazzu will always play on a bigger stage in the Pac 12, but EWU has locally taken more precedent in the past few years. Making Coug fans even more salty, is the fact that many Spokane fans have jumped on the EWU bandwagon as well.

I would love nothing more than for EWU to win in Pullman this fall and cement everything previously mentioned. It will however, be a taller task than in recent years. WSU is better than in 2012.

I'll probably only make it to one game this fall and was thinking about making the trek to Pullman. After reading the comments in this thread I will probably just stick to a home game in Cheney. Most likely the Montana game.

This. This will be one of those games where a shootout won't favor us. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see what kind of game plan we roll out. We can't throw the ball every down and hope to outscore them because their defense will be better than ours. If we had an elite QB it might be different, but I am thinking we're going to have to try something that we don't do a lot of: possession. That's how PSU beat them this year. Of course, the poor conditions really helped them as well.

I have many toughts about this game. I will be bringing a small army down to Pullman to support the Eags. There isn't one fan base in America that's going to scare this Eag fan off. They lost quite a few starters on defense. Coop will once again be the best player on the field. And we might have an elite QB on our hands. Give some of these young guys a chance. I remember Matt Nichols first year of action...then what he did the rest of his career at EWU. I think we might have a situation like that on our hands. Tough game no doubt. Cougars are a solid team. So was Oregon last year. Something tells me we could have hung in that game longer if they didn't have that beastly running back. Cougs are going to try to throw it and that helps us more than a team like Oregon that wants to pound it down your throat then throw it over the top. A lot more can go wrong for a team that wants to throw it 60 times a game.

go Eags!

We will be making the trip to Pullman and meet up with about 10 other West siders (parents and students). Looking forward to tailgate with other Eags. Been there for 3 apple cups and this should be a lot nicer with no snow on the ground!
I just don't get the whole thing of acting like a ass at a football game and usually (not always) its people who have too much to drink. You would think the love of collage football would bring people together but some people are more into putting people down. Hey win or lose us Eagles are going to have a good time!
Bet those Cougs weren't doing much trash talking after last years opener! :D

Eagledawg,
I saw where the Alumni will have a bus leaving Cheney, at Safeway Parking Lot and in the Valley from Yokes Grocery Store. I will miss this one, with my knees, I don't want to take any chances. I know it is very young with our team, but what I have seen, will give WSU all they can tolerate. We have some great Players that are coming back, and some Recruits that may be making their debut. I am hoping WSU are underestimating the Eags, they will be getting "SMACKED" in their mouth. Time for the busses have not been announced. Vic

Eagledawg,
Sorry I left you hanging reference the Buses above. If you are interested to ride Buss contact Leslie Mowart 509-359-4556, Associate Director, Alumni Events. I think we have about 15 people signed up so far, I will watch it on TV somehow. I don't think she will be mad my supplying her office phone#. Apr 23rd, is Red and White Scrimmage @ 2.pm, @ 4:30 pm, the grub snack line opens for Crab legs, Meatballs, and all kind of goodies, then about 6:15p.m., Lobster and Steak inside Reece court, after the eating, is my fun watching some Happy Individuals trying to dance. I will be sitting with the Big Wig, AD Bill Chaves:). You dance until about 10:00pm. I think it finishes around that time. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

When you say elite QB whom would you be referring too? Hennessy or West?

Let me start off by saying that I think West is a good Big Sky QB. I think a lot of Big Sky teams would love to have him and I'm glad he's on our roster. Second, I have to admit, I still need to see Gubrud play more before I feel like I can make any kind of assessment. All I know is that I keep hearing that he provides mobility from everyone that talks about the kid. I did see him play in last year's red/white game. He looked solid then, but I don't know that what I saw won me over. Just a frosh then, so there may have been some major improvement over the off-season. I saw that he threw some TD's on Sat.

But the guy I'm referring to is Hennessey. It's too early to say he's going to be elite, that's why I said, "we might" have an elite QB on our hands. I watched what he did in that Oregon game and I kept shaking my head that a frosh could come in and do what he did against the Ducks. I saw the same thing happening in the N. Iowa game and then I believe he got hurt if I'm not mistaken. He reminded me of the Big Sky's version of a Tony Romo against Oregon. Not super fast but he went out there and made Oregon guys miss in the pocket using sheer athletic ability without thinking too much. I'm hoping Baldwin gives him more freedom to run around in the pocket this year because that's when I think he's at his best. I think too much structure hinders his natural ability. He's sneaky quick and can extend plays. Plus he's got the "natural leadership" trait. Heard Baldwin refer to that on the news. All this being said, it sounds like Baldwin is high on Gubrud. But from what I know about coaches....talking one guy up in the media can be used as a tool to push the guy that you really want starting even harder. I don't think any coach in America wants his starting QB coasting into the season thinking he's got the job won and doesn't need to push himself. That last sentence is just some speculation. I don't know who will start. I just think that Hennessey has all of the tools necessary to become elite someday. Will he become elite......that remains to be seen. Sounds like Gubrud is an elite athlete if you listen to guys like Coop talk about him. Is he an elite passer though? Does he even need to be an elite passer for the eags to win with him under center? All I know is that I like what we have in our young QB's. If one of those two guys doesn't become the elite QB we're hoping for.....I like what I've seen so far from the guy we just signed. EB3 looks like the real-deal too. Just my :twocents:

go Eags!

Thanks for your response Rafter! I find it unbelievable that we have such a great group of QB's! I would not be surprised to see one of them take off at the end of spring because of the writing on the wall. Besides West it is a young group. It will be interesting to see where we end up heading into our game versus WSU I just hope he comes out of Spring with a decision as to who will be the starter, meaning that someone takes the job (out competes/performs over the others)!

As a rep from the Coug Alumni, I apologize for any crap any of you may have/will endure from cougar fans..

We traditionally have a good rep with other universities (minus Oregon/UW) as "fun loving" and "energetic". I have met alumni from Wisconsin, Auburn, Oregon State, Rutgers, etc... all had nothing but great things to say about our traveling alumni/fans.

That being said, I acknowledge we are a party school in many ways (although some of that routy-ness IS behind us when you compare the current culture to the 1980's and 1990's), and that brings drunkness. Some simply cannot hold their booze. Lets be perfectly clear though, we do not compare to Oregon or UW in terms of poor behavior. Those two have EARNED their bad rep over the last 30+ years. Oregon, sure, but UW you say? Its the Seattle fan in them... ever go to a Seahawk game? Hawk fans are the same way to opposing visitors, simply nasty individuals (on average, I am sure there are plenty of good people).

I really hope no one is discouraged from coming to Pullman for the game, on average we are a really fun-loving humble fan base. Unless the culture as shifted since I graduated, WSU students/alumni see Eastern (and Idaho for that matter) as our Palouse "cousins". Our disastrous previous 10 years of football prior to 2013 was to your School's benefit (there... I said it). Come to the tailgates, have a beer and burger at theCoug, and I hope to see a packed Eastern WA section in Martin Stadium this fall!

Thanks for stopping by. I'll probably try to make the game with a few others. I'm sure there will be a good contingent of Eastern fans coming.
