EWU vs Montana Tickets in Missoula

Just FYI before the rumors run rampant.

- We will be running a bus to Missoula. Krysta Plato is in charge of it (no price set yet, etc) but you can reserve your seat at 359-6208.

- Montana is charging $57 per ticket for the game in Missoula against EWU Sept. 17, 2011. These will be sold to EAA members only and to highest donor level to lowest.

Thanks

Troy Kirby
EWU Athletic TIcket Manager

And they were complaining about how high our tickets were for the game this year - and this $57 is the EAA price. :roll: I'll be going either way. Any idea how many they've alloted EWU?

The UM ticket office has allotted us more than 2 years prior because of our help last year with allotment concerns, but the allotment is limited enough that the restriction to EAA members is pretty valid.

BTW - EWU's game with UM is the highest priced ticket for Missoula this year. They are charging $30 for tickets to some of their other games there.

hold on, weren't Montana fans complaining this year about how much tickets cost to the game at Roos? we get raped on ticket prices every time we go to Missoula. i guess if they paid more than $60 a ticket then they have a right to complain, but very interesting that the EWU game is their most expensive game of the season.

How many tickets can an EAA member purchase? Are there restictions to the number one member can buy?

The number of tickets an EAA is allowed to purchase is based on their giving level. That information is available on the following link:

http://static.psbin.com/x/a/io8zo7rx3xrrek/2011EAABrochure.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Use the priority purchasing levels as the indicator as to how many tickets you can purchase.

That's the same price that would be charged for the MSU (premium) game if it were in Missoula this year. Homecoming tickets are generally that price as well. At least our AD (unlike Chaves) won't blackmail you into paying $120 for a GSA membership if you want to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

Grzfnz; Thank you for the insight as to the Grizzly pricing structure. On the other subject you brought up you, like other Griz fans I've spoken with, are misinformed about the ticket situation before last years game in Cheney. The Eagle ticket office allotted the same number of tickets to Grizzly fans as the Grizzly office allotted to the Eagles fansin previous years. When those were sold out the EAA accepted memberships and the benefits that go with that membership included advance purchase of game tickets. There was no blackmail as the decision to join the EAA was clearly the choice to the buyer. If the Grizzly ticket office would like better treatment of their traveling fans, they will to have to show the same respect to visiting fans coming to Missoula.

As a student at EWU and huge Eagle football fan, I'm pretty uspet with how Eastern is handling the ticket sales for this game. I've been planning to attend this game for a year now, but was un aware you had to be an EAA member to get tickets. That's one of the dumbest things i've ever heard!! :x They'd rather give some of the allotted tickets back to UM, rather than selling them to Eastern students and fans?? I'm a student that pays enough money to the university as it is and refuse to become a EAA member for $120 just to be able to buy road game tickets. I'll be at this game, but IMO, Eastern is really dropping the ball on this one!

You don't have to be an EAA member.....it's just that priority goes to EAA members. You can always just buy a single game ticket.

When I called yesterday about it, I was told that tickets wouldn't go on sale for non-EAA members. Whatever wasn't sold to members, would be given back to UM.

EWUeagle2010;
If what you have experienced is the way it is, I agree it sucks. Have to wonder if this policy does not go back to last year when Griz fans were required to join EAA in order to buy tickets over their normal allocation. It would be nice to have as many Eagle fans there as possible. Those extra tickets will be snatched up by Griz fans on the spot. Seems like this policy should have different consideration for students than for the general public.

I have to think that's what it may be. Best bet is to try and get single game tickets from UM. I have been able to get tickets at the gate there a couple of times. Call up UM and try to get a single game tickets, or maybe get on egriz or championshipsubdivision.com and go to the tickets section and ask around. There's going to be tickets available for this game somewhere.

Thanks guys, I'll check it out. I checked the UM website already but they were sold out according to the ticket company. Luckily I am from Montana and know a lot of Griz season ticket holders that may be willing to sell to my and my gang of Eagles that want to head over!

It doesn't. It goes back to when Troy started, because I couldn't purchase tickets to the Griz game in 2009 either unless I joined the EAA, which I couldn't afford since I was a student at the time. Even as a recent graduate, I still can't afford it. The policy is BS.

Good news, EWU has announced there will be some tickets made available for students for both the UW and UM games! Well done Eastern, I knew you'd figure it out!! Can't wait to be at both games! :D

That is good news, and I'm glad there will be more EWU fans in the seats at those games because of it. Unfortunately I still have to go through other channels since I'm no longer a student. I'm biting the bullet and purchasing tickets for the UM game for $75 a pop via a guy who has extra season tickets. :ohno:

While I understand your concern, we need members in the EAA. Everyone talks about these great projects that people want, or what we should do to get a coach or new recruit. But until this year, we've never had 1,000 EAA members. If it takes holding what you value in order to get you to join the EAA, to me, it's worth it to build the program. I could have surcharged each Montana or Uni of Washington ticket to make up the difference but how would that have changed anything. For years, EWU athletics was criticized for having a football team with no value because we gave away the store. My goal is to achieve value for the product in order to keep the athletic department from risk of cuts. Trust me, during budget cut time, athletics is judged by their donor and ticket numbers, not how many fans they brought to the Missoula or Seattle games. I respect your opinon, but we've tried it the free tickets so people come to the game theory. It devalues the program and makes it a chopping block item. And that's why the EAA membership requirement for ticket rights or other advantages is necessary.

I understand the need for EAA membership and resulting donor funding, and I never said anything about giving away free tickets. But disallowing students and EWU alum from purchasing tickets because they aren't EAA members is BS. That, IMO, does more to turn away prospective donors and supporters than draw them in. By restricting who can purchase tickets you're restricting ticket numbers and the opportunity to draw more people in to the great product that is EWU football. And I think you'd agree that the more people that experience the product on the field either home or away, the more donors and fans the program will develop. :twocents:
