EWU vs MSU prediction thread

I'll start us off with a tough prediction.

I didn't get to see the EWU vs ND game, so this is an even more difficult prediction for me. Looks like we sure cleaned house though.

First off, looking at MSU's 6-0 record is a little intimidating. However, I don't think MSU has faced any real adversity in their schedule. That being said, having no adversity and, for the most part, not coming out with impressive wins, doesn't impress me. Eastern however has played WSU and UM in very tight gamse which allowed a lot of growth. Edge goes to Eastern.

I've heard MSU is suffering from injuries in the LB position just like Eastern, but MSU has better depth at the LB position. Edge goes to MSU.

MSU also has a below par secondary on defense. Against division I schools, even the terrible ones, MSU has given at least 200 + yards per game. Eastern has had a fairly consistent pass defense all season. Edge goes to EWU.

MSU has an inexperienced D-Line that I think that our O-Line can handle. That being said, the same can be said about the MSU O-line vs our D-Line. Edge goes to noone.

MSU has a decent run game. Our defense has proven weak against the run. MSU has a good run defense and our run game is mostly lackluster (I'm not willing to compare a ND defense to a MSU defense). BIG edge to MSU.

MSU has had a terrible turnover margin. Correctly if I'm wrong, but -7 I think? EWU has had a +6. Edge goes to Eastern.

MSU has home field advantage. Edge to MSU

Special teams, don't know what to think. We have missed a couple PATs and dropped a punt. I don't know where MSU is sitting for their specials.

Final predicted score, EWU 31-28.

WOW, Well I will try to help out a little here.

Not enough style points huh

You heard Wrong, LB's are in good shape, owens had a thigh bruise but will be back next week

Msu has played the #2, #8 and #26 passing team in the FCS, EWU has not played a top 15 passing team
MSU has an inexperienced D-Line that I think that our O-Line can handle. That being said, the same can be said about the MSU O-line vs our D-Line. Edge goes to noone.
Out DL is a huge strength of our team, pre-season all american Zach Minter, 2011 sack leader Daly, and hit man Schreibise are all good to go, plus their backups who have had plenty of playing time
Our OL is very young and getting better with every snap, getting where I am comfortable with them now.
MSU has a decent run game. Our defense has proven weak against the run. MSU has a good run defense and our run game is mostly lackluster (I'm not willing to compare a ND defense to a MSU defense). BIG edge to MSU.
Our run game may be a concern this week, unknown if Kirk will play, we are a different team when he is in
MSU has had a terrible turnover margin. Correctly if I'm wrong, but -7 I think? EWU has had a +6. Edge goes to Eastern.
Yeah that sucks, we are -5
MSU has home field advantage. Edge to MSU

Perez is 100% in FG, Punts have been good and coverage have been good, better than last year anyway
Final predicted score, EWU 31-28.

And how many of these almighty passing teams have an efficient QB... Let's see the closest one is:

# 40 Mike Piatkowski Drake

The thing that scares me is that Eastern played primarily a front-loaded schedule with a LOT of very good teams coming at us in the first half of the season (although the second half of the season is no cakewalk either.... really bad scheduling this year). Montana State played a D-II and a scollie-restricted D-I in Drake. Plus, they have yet to play one of the better Big Sky schools.

While you could argue this has left Eastern with a good understanding of how to play in competitive games, it has also taken it's toll on the team leaving us awfully beat up. Meanwhile, by playing a soft first 6 games, MSU is almost completely healthy.

It sure would've been nice to play Montana State during our bye week and be getting that bye week right about now. :thefan:

PASSING
McGhee: 152/226 (67%), 12 TDs - 6 INTs, 1589 YDs (10.5 YPC) = 138.5 EFF
Adams: 44/68 (64 %), 7 TDs - 1 INT, 579 YDs (13.2 YPC) = 167.3 EFF

RUSHING
McGhee: 53 carries, 141 yards, 2.7 AVG, 4 TDs
Adams: 23 carries, 156 yards, 6.8 AVG, 0 TDs.

As you can see, I was being nice by calling it a push. Not to mention our backup has a winning record and started 20+ games at the FBS level, set school records at SMU, etc.

Sorry kitty, we will always have better QBs than MSU.

Erik Meyer > Travis Lulay
Matt Nichols > Whoever
Bo Levi > McGhee
Adams > McGhee

C'mon you weren't really serious were you. I mean the kid looks like he could be pretty good, a lot like McGhee but to say he is at that level now. he has 3 starts, one he couldn't finish against an team that is 0-6, another he couldn't get much done except throw deep into triple coverage and expect Kaufman to get it or knock it down, or when um totally blew the coverage. If Kaufman doesn't bat that onside kick back you would have been bitching on the kid. I didn't see the latest game but 168 yards passing isn't gonna cut it, he must have handed the ball off a lot since you were against one of the worst run defenses in the league. He hasn't been to a hostile environment yet, lets see how he reacts when a pressure DL is after him, hell USD kept 7 blockers in to protect their QB when we rushed 4 and we still got to him. Your kid has a lot of potential, but you know that means he hasn't done anything yet.

Adams didn't need to play past the first few series in the second half and unlike Portland State we had no desire to run the score up by 1k (despite what the overall score looks like could have been in the 80's they had NO match for our speed)!
Why keep him in to possibly cause injury? We ran the ball pretty much the entire second half. The game was out of reach for ND they had QUIT. No need to pad stats.
I do admit that being a RF he is green, but he is as impressive as McGhee was when he first started out, but is much quicker! Shoot the fact he has only turned the ball over the few times he has makes me ubber excited. He really hasn't forced much. Looking forward to the game Go Eags!

Ahhh....we have the pleasure of Cats2506 this week. I'll answer a couple of your questions here. Adams threw for, I believe, 156 of those yards in the first half. He only played the first series and a half to start the 2nd half (about 6-7 min) as we were dominating. As far as your D-line dominating, you did last year, you won't this year. Unlike last year, our QB is VERY mobile, even if you do get a pass rush, we have a QB that can run this year. As far as he hasn't done anything yet, no he hasn't, he is 3-0 in his starts but we are talking about 8.5 qtrs of play, so you are right. QB's and teams are judged by how they do in the playoffs so technically DM and the Bobcats haven't done anything yet either, and this is DM's 3rd year.

I think the Bobcats are forgetting, we have an All american receiver, who dominated the Big Sky last year, who hasn't played the last 3 weeks. Very good chance he will play against MSU. We should also have Z. Johnson back this game and that will make a huge difference as well.

The bobcats do scare me, they are very good. They have won the games they were suppose to, they haven't beaten a very good team yet, but that is not there fault. Eastern hasn't played a bunch of great teams either, but the GRIZ and UND are both better than any team MSU has faced.

The difference in this game will be how well our defense plays against your offense...

Should be a great game, but remember, MSU has ALL the pressure in this one. If you don't come out firing right away, watch out.

Eags 31
MSU 28

It would really help our chances if I hated the Bobcats and their fans as much as I do Griz. However, Adams will play a mistake free game and our D will force two turnovers. 31-14 good guys.

Yep, 12/15 4 TDs, no picks is doing nothing. 3-0 as a starter... pffft.

2506... once again ignoring the cold hard facts, and burying his head where the sun don't shine because McGhee isn't the best.

This game looked a lot tougher a couple weeks ago to me. I love what the Eags have showed with the gritty come back win against the Griz and then finally clicking on offense against North Dakota.

I know MSU has won the last couple games in the seris, but I would not be surprised if we go into Bozmen and win by 10. MSU has not looked great all year and are winning on talent, but I don't think they are going to slow down our offense.

EWU 35-23

We have struggled with mobile QB's but have overcome those challenges. Facing the good QB's we have has been a learning experience and our players are better every game. McGee is good, he is the real deal, not doubting his skills and execution in the least, but if our players cover their responsibilities we will be OK. If we keep McGee and Kirk contained to short runs and the Cats are forced to pass we got 'em!. We do not have to stop the running game completely just enough to keep them in third and long and we will keep the game at our pace rather than their pace.
I like our chances in this game.
Eagles 35- 28.
