Exhibition Games & Signing Date

Lets get this thing going.

Two exhibition games, St Katherine School of Cosmetology and Western State Rehab Center. Hmmmm.... I wonder what sort of games these will be? I'm sure that everyone who is going to play, will play. We just don't want any injuries on either side. We may want some haircuts after Saturday's game.

Signing Date is Nov. 12th. That is always an exciting time. We have our commitments, but you never know until you get the signatures all locked up. It's sure looking good though.

I actually feel a little sorry for St. Katherine. If they are as bad as they were last year, our D could hold them to 20 points. I don't think there is going to be any mercy. The guys have been working hard on the defensive fundamentals and, in the practices I have seen, are playing at a very high level. I don't think that the coaches will tolerate any slacking off on the D. They have to use these games as preparation for USU and BYU. This could get ugly in a hurry. On the other hand, everyone who can play will play. I'm guessing that the starters will get 25 minutes and not a lot more. I'm also guessing that we will see a limited number of offensive and defensive sets. It will be kept quite simple.

Someone mentioned, in another thread, that red shirts can play in exhibition games. I hope that is true, but I have been told otherwise when I have asked in years past. We will see. :coffee:

Student-athletes in their first year at an institution, provided they are otherwise eligible (e.g. 4-4 transfers cannot play since they have to sit out a year), can play in exhibitions/scrimmages without using a season of competition.

That Is good to hear. It remains to be seen if they will all play or not, but I hope they do. Going against St. Katherine may not be a good test of skill, but it may give an indication of general preparedness. :coffee:

The starting five could change more than once within the season, but at least we will know who has won it at this point. I also want to pay close attention to the first guard off the bench and the first big. The second big and guard will also be telling. After that, we are probably just looking at red shirt potentials. :coffee:

Just saw this: "St. Katherine College is located in Encinitas, Calif., with an enrollment of 85 students." :yikes: We beat them by 71 pts last season. Why not just bring in the Ben Lomond HS JV team? They couldn't be much worse.

Wow! They have had a 50% increase in their studentbody since last year. There must be a higher demand for hairdressers in Cali.

Our exhibition and OOC schedule could be a little tougher. Our exhibition schedule is against powder puff universities and our OOC schedule, although tougher than last years still doesn't seem fitting for a program that is ready to take the next step.

With our strength of schedule, if we make the tourney it going to be at a 16 seed.... 15 if we're lucky. To be elite you have to play the elite.

I'm confident that Presentation is going to give us a run for our money........ Is it possible we have the weakest OOC schedule in the BSC?

Old's, you have Randy's ear........

Exhibition games aside, this is the best OOC schedule we have had in quite a while. Yes, there are two patsies in Presentation and Bristol, But the rest of that schedule is solid. To get a better home schedule we need to get to the point where top 25 programs don't fear a loss to us on our floor. A loss that won't kill their RPI. The only way we are going to accomplish that is to regularly beat these teams on their floor, to the point where our RPI is high enough that they don't fear playing on our floor. It took Gonzaga quite a while to establish that kind of cred., but they have it now, and teams will play on their floor for that very reason. We are at the point where we are good enough to beat top 25 teams on our floor, and they know it. We have to start winning more of these road games and do it over quite a few years. If we can do that, scheduling will become easier.

That is a mouthful, but it's the truth.

Making the tourney for the first time in a while and as a 16 says nothing about being ready to take the next step. We love the talent on this team and on paper they seem poised to have consecutive, successful years but no one sees Weber as an absolute threat, even the lowly BSC. I really don't see Weber's OOC schedule as being all that bad. Yes, the exhibition games are pretty much worthless in helping Weber figure things out and improve, maybe with the exception of helping determine rotations, but as was already mentioned it'll take several consecutive years of team recognition and some raised eyebrow wins for the selection committee to forget how bad the BSC is and the @$$kicking Syracuse gave Montana. An improved BSC RPI is the real help but that's a two-edged sword as I don't ever see the BSC getting a second seed and a tougher BSC consievably means less chance that Weber even makes the tourney. I absolutely love the league of exclusion the NCAA has become.
