FCS Attendance

I think those numbers will continue to increase this year and into the future. Attending football games at Roos on Saturdays in the fall has become an event for students on campus and with growing numbers of alumni as well.

I am so proud to have witnessed what has happened with this football program over the last 20 years.

9,432 average attendance is pretty good considering the facilities at Eastern. That number reaffirms my belief that if there was another 5-6,000 seats the average attendance would increase by 4-5k.
How many more students could the University accommodate? All of the extra exposure should/would equate to increased enrollment.

Before we add new seating I would like to see them get rid of the track and move it somewhere up above. Let's just start off by bringing all of the fans closer to the action on the field. That in itself will enhance the game day experience at Roos.

Not bad for attendance this past year...our average is a little off because of the play-off games lower attendance. (see page 2) http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/Attendance/2014.pdf

And your overall average attendance could have been a little better if extra bleachers were brought in for the Montana/EWU playoff game. Maybe not by much, but it would help increase the average a bit.

Why bring in extra bleachers, basically for the Griz fans, when the NCAA gets the revenue. :ohno:

The NCAA gets all the $$ so there is no reason to add costs of extra bleachers.
You tellum :D

Why should we accept being behind the Montana schools? The entire state of Montana has a population of 989,415. https://suburbanstats.org/population/how-many-people-live-in-montana" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The state of Montana is 147, 040 sq miles.
Spokane County has 471,221. https://suburbanstats.org/population/washington/how-many-people-live-in-spokane-county" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Spokane County is 1,781 sq miles, slightly more than 10% of the state of Montana. So Spokane County alone has about 1/2 the population of the entire state of Montana.
Point is it is a long was to Missoula or Bozeman from much of the state while it is about 30 miles max to Cheney. We do compete with WSU for fans but there is a lot more population in eastern Washington than Spokane County.
Summation, I feel the Eagles are under performing as it pertains to attendance.
Come on people we need a new stadium!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. Build a new stadium and they will come. People want to be part of something new and exciting. I can't tell you how many people I have heard say they would buy season tickets if a new stadium was finally built.

I never said I accept it, but considering where we are currently with facilities, 110% attendance is impressive. I think everyone here knows we can do better and need either a new or at the very least upgraded stadium. But when it comes down to it, $$$ has been and seems to continue to be the biggest hurdle in that happening.

Your point IS well made, but your math sucks. Spokane county is only 1.2% the size of the State of Montana. You guys need to put your "Stamp" on Spokane and make them want to come to cheney to watch football games... and what really sucks is your school dropped the ball, because they had the perfect opportunity to make people come watch when you had VA. Until you make Spokane care, you don't need a new stadium.

Hilarity...

That's the first thing I noticed as well. I hope that "0" at the end of the 1% appeared accidentally.

However, I hardly think the loss of a single player is going to make much of an impact on attendance. We've sold out our "permanent" grandstands every year since 2010... We've been selling overflow into wimpy temp bleachers since then. The demand exists now.

Holy sh*t! I hope you didn't get an engineering degree from MSU.

I guess the point I was trying to make, is with VA you had a very exciting, marketable player. Making it very easy to put butts in seats.

So if you guys build a 20K capacity stadium your telling me your going to fill it as things stand now?

This would be great but its a stretch. It's been said a million times before but the Griz and Bobcats have NO competition for fans. We have Wazzu football (good or not, its Pac 12 football), Gonzaga basketball, Chiefs hockey to compete with during Eagle football season. The Montana schools have no competition, its the only thing to do in the State so of course they are going to have a lot of fans, N. Dakota is the same way....

Marc;
I understand what you are saying but don't totally agree. Gonzaga has a capacity of only about 5k fans, that is if you are a season ticket holder already, and that is in a different season. I don't know exactly but Eastern Washington has a population approaching double the entire state of Montana with much less logistics issues. WSU is a competitor for fans so there are two division 1 teams in an area that is almost double the population.

MTcowpoke said:
Perhaps. If every home game was against MSU or UM. But a third or more of the fans would not be cheering for EWU.

I hear UM/MSU faithful continue to state this opinion to stroke their own ego but it hasn't been accurate for this decade. EWU has made remarkable growth in all areas of the university including the football program, and we sell out our games no matter who we are playing.

EWU is well positioned to take over the top dog role in the Big Sky across the board.
