FCS Preseason Top 25

I think the Griz got a little more love than I thought they'd get (was thinking they'd be in the 17 range with all their unknowns). Bobcats once again got an early high rating which they tend to drop off as season goes on. Eags didn't get as much love as they've been used to last few years. The write ups are pretty solid on each team. Is it football season yet!!

The Griz are overrated, the Cats are seemingly underrated until they lose in their first home playoff game again and we all realize the were actually overrated, and the Eags are about right to start.

I just won't buy into MSU until I see the results actually happen. I think they're flat out overrated and over hyped again this season. Their offense is going to be good, but that defense still has huge question marks. I don't believe that MSU's offense is as good as EWU's has been the last 3 years. I think they're in about the 15 range.

UM is going to be their usual selves, winning about 7-8 games. The new system is still a question mark, I think they're in about the 15-20 range.

EWU is obviously going to take a hit offensively, although I don't believe as big as many seem to think. They still have a.WR core that's stacked, an above average running game and offensive line, and I belive an offensive system that allows any competent QB to succeed. West will be fine, just won't be as mobile as VA. Defensively, I think we're still probably average at best. I hope I'm wrong and they exceed my expectations, but I have to see it first. I think they're right about right in this ranking. The first 3 games will say a lot and I do belive they will come out 2-1.

Whoever has the best D will more than likely win the conference. All three schools historically haven't had issues scoring.

If that's the scenario then Montana will probably win the conference. At this point, Montana has a strong defense whereas EWU and MSU are questionable with both programs implementing new defensive schemes. Now, I don't really believe the team with the best D will win the conference, case in point Montana last year with the best D but absolutely no offense. It's going to take a well-balanced team to win the conference: Good offense with a good defense.

I think the conference will again come down to Montana, EWU, and Montana State. The most balanced team will have the best chance in the playoffs, balance that has been missing from all three programs for the last couple of years. It's a matter of who can put together their own puzzle the quickest. If Stitt can get this team going quickly in the new offense (he's going to be a hell of lot better at coaching than Delaney), then Montana could see a deep playoff run. If Eastern can find a defense to help out the offense, then EWU will see another deep playoff run with a better chance of taking it all. Same with MSU, but let's be honest... they'll probably have their November meltdown like always.

I wouldn't be too quick to write off the Bengels. Their conference schedule is pretty favorable for them.

Idaho State 2015 schedule
Sept. 5: vs. Black Hills State
Sept. 12: vs. Portland State
Sept. 18: at Boise State
Sept. 26: at UNLV
Oct. 3: at Cal Poly
Oct. 10: at North Dakota
Oct. 17: vs. Eastern Washington
Oct. 24: at Sacramento State
Oct. 31: BYE
Nov. 7: vs. Montana
Nov. 14: vs. Montana State
Nov. 21: at Weber State
They picked up a transfer QB and Kramer is a winning coach. Three players on the all america list.
Fortunately for the Montana schools they get them late in the season so Montana can get their offense going.

While Idaho State's schedule is better than ours, it still is pretty tough. They play Eastern and the Montanas at home, but they play all of the top 4 teams. What's worse, they go from Sept 12 all the way to Nov 7 wi just ONE home game.

They have Boise State to our Oregon and short trip to UNLV, which is very winnable, to our trip to N Iowa. They could look pretty good by playoff time.
