Was looking at Jacksonville State's record and noticed they had a game 11/5 game against a 3-7 Southeastern Missouri. JSU barely won 17-10...their loss was to LSU 34-10 arly in the season. Don't know that much about them but stats say they are strong against the run(77 yds per game) and they run it well(246 per game). They pass 186 per game while giving up 175. That 17-10 win 11/5 vs a 3-7 team tells me they aren't dominate and beatable.

As it relates to Jax State, they are an OVC team. That has historically been one of the weaker FCS conferences. They get to bully some pretty bad teams. Their strength of schedule is only better than SHSU by a small margin.

However, much like the Bearkats, they seem to pass the eye test. They have a lot of talent. And much like SHSU, they play fairly raw; unlike NDSU, Eastern, and James Madison who are in tough more weeks than not and look more polished.

jsu is a very good team in a very weak conference. outside of them, I can't think of one historically decent team in that conference. i don't know how they compare to 2013 when we played them in cheney but I do remember that being a tough out.

Yep, Havili had a pick-6 in that game when he was a LB

I don't understand these rankings. Sam Houston hasn't beaten a team that's above .500!!!

Ok Panhandlers (DII) 2-9
Lamar 3-7
Houston Baptist 4-6
Stephen F. Austin 4-6
Incarnate Word 2-8
Abilene Christian 2-8
Nicholls 5-5
Texas Southern 4-6
McNeese 5-5
Northwestern St. 1-9

That is a terrible conference!

Wow, I hadn't realized that. By contrast, we've only beaten 4 with a couple more that could end up with winning records at 6-5.

I'm just baffled that Stats is ranking SHSU so high. Lots of other questionable votes this year. STATS/ Sport's Network used to be a pretty decent poll... but this year it's just as useless as the Coach's Poll.
